Hoover Earns Spot in CIF Quarterfinal

The Hoover High School varsity boys’ water polo team secured a 16-11 victory over host Don Lugo High of Chino in its CIF Southern Section Division IV opener on Oct. 31.
Sophomore David Tarkhchyan recorded five goals, junior Rafael Davtyan tallied four goals and junior Davit Harutyunyan finished with three goals. Freshman Armen Tarakhchyan scored two goals, while junior Haik Aghadjanian and sophomore Arthur Tarkhchyan each added one goal.
The Tornados (13-8) defeated Buena Park 12-11 in the second round on Thursday, Nov. 2, to set up a quarterfinal matchup with Malibu (20-9) on Saturday, Nov. 4. Details of those results will be included next week’s issue of the Glendale News-Press.

The Nitros lost at Yucaipa 18-8 in their CIF Southern Section Division III opener on Oct. 31. Arno Ghazaryan racked up six goals, while Andrew Klujian and August Kalaba each scored one goal.
Glendale finished the campaign fifth in the Pacific League with a 6-6 record (18-19 overall).
