Local Teams Compete in League Tournament

The Crescenta Valley, Glendale and Hoover high schools varsity boys’ tennis teams sent individuals to compete in the Pacific League Tournament finals and prelims this week.
CV’s No. 5 doubles team of Hochan Lee and Joshua Kook defeated Glendale’s No. 12 duo of Sergey Grigorian and Leo Petrosyan, 6-0, 6-1, but lost to No. 4 Arcadia in the second round of prelims.
CV’s No. 7 tandem of Ryan and Daniel Lee defeated No. 10 Burroughs High of Burbank, 7-5, 6-2, but lost to No. 2 Burbank in the second round.
In singles action, all three of CV’s competitors lost in the opening round. No. 16 Aiden Kim lost to No. 1 Burbank, 6-0, 6-1, and No. 10 lost to Pasadena’s No. 7. Hoover’s No. 6 Alec Avedisian defeated CV’s No. 11 Dylan Kim, 6-4, 6-2, but lost to No. 3 Arcadia in the second round.
Hoover’s lone doubles team of Benjamin Lim and Vincent Abechian, the No. 13 seed, lost their opening round to No. 4 Arcadia, 6-3, 6-1.
Glendale’s No. 5 Lazar Ratkovic beat Arcadia’s No. 12, 6-0, 7-5, but lost to No. 4 Burbank in the second round. Meanwhile, No. 9-seeded singles Chris Krajian lost his opening matchup against No. 8 Arcadia, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, the No. 16 tandem of Tigran Margaryan and Vynce Cajanding lost to No. 1 Arcadia, 6-0, 6-0, in the opening round.

HOOVER

The Tornados concluded the regular season by defeating host Glendale, 12-6, in a Pacific League match last Thursday.
No. 1 Avedisian (6-1, 6-2) and No. 3 Daniel Shakaryan (6-1, 6-1) each won a pair of sets while No. 2 Albert Poghosyan added a 6-1 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of Abechian and Noah Kurien swept, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1, while the No. 1 duo of Lim and Christopher Kim (6-2, 6-1) and the No. 3 tandem of Eric Ghokasian Khoygani and Andrew Golbasarians (6-2, 6-3) each won a pair of sets.

GLENDALE

The Nitros concluded the regular season by losing to visiting Hoover High, 12-6, in a Pacific League match last Thursday.
No. 2 Ratkovic swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1, the No. 2 doubles team of Amari Richarson and Cajanding won a pair of sets, 6-3, 6-4, and No. 3 Grigorian won a set, 6-3.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

The Falcons were swept by Arcadia, 18-0, in their regular-season finale last week. With the conclusion of the Pacific League tournament this week, the CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Monday, May 1, at 11 a.m.
