Boys’ Volleyball: Freemon Leads Crescenta Valley to Sweep of Glendale

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ volleyball team swept host Glendale, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21, in a Pacific League match on April 10.
Joshua Sohn racked up 39 assists, three digs and one ace, while Logan Freemon tallied 25 kills, five digs, one block and one assist. Colin Walley registered six kills and one dig, while Sena Hunter chipped in six kills. Benjamin Hart produced four kills, two blocks, two digs and one ace, while Aubrey Peterson recorded four kills and one block. Matt Hong finished with five digs, three aces, two assists and one kill, Tyler Hong collected six digs, and Jonah Choe had one ace and one assist.
The Falcons swept visiting Pasadena, 25-26, 26-24, 25-20, in a league match on April 9.
Sohn finished with 27 assists, three digs, two aces and one block, Freemon racked up 21 kills, seven digs, three aces and two blocks, and Walley contributed 11 kills and two blocks. Hart produced eight digs, five kills, two aces and one assist, Choe recorded eight assists and two digs, and Matt Hong tallied seven digs and two assists. Hunter chipped in two kills, one block, one assist and one dig, while Levering registered four digs and one kill. Tyler Hong was credited with two aces and two digs, while Mason Park collected two kills and one block. Matthew Lee had one block, one assist and one dig, while Peterson had one kill and one block.
Crescenta Valley (21-7 overall, 6-2 in league) will finish hosting its 21st annual Crescenta Valley Tournament on April 13 before resuming league play at Arcadia on April 16 at 6 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School junior Caleb Shimasaki was credited with 12 assists during a Pacific League match against Crescent Valley High on April 10.

The Nitros were swept by visiting Crescent Valley High, 23-25, 20-25, 21-25, in a Pacific League match on April 10.
Junior Quan Tran recorded 10 kills, 10 digs and one block, while junior Tad Whiting contributed seven kills, seven blocks and three digs. Senior Koko Haboian was credited with 16 assists and one dig, freshman Isaiah Mascardo tallied 14 digs and two assists, and junior Caleb Shimasaki registered 12 assists and four digs. Senior Nick Ramirez produced six kills, four blocks and two digs, while senior Ibrahim Alnaqib finished with five kills and four digs. Junior Benjamin Salmeron had seven blocks and two kills, while junior Raul Martinez chipped in two kills.
Glendale suffered a four-game loss at Burbank, 16-25, 25-17, 22-25, 21-25, in a league match on April 9.
Alnaqib racked up 14 kills and 13 digs, while Shimasaki produced 15 assists and eight digs. Haboian finished with 14 assists and four digs, while Tran contributed 10 digs, six kills and one ace. Whiting recorded eight blocks, six kills and one ace, while Salmeron registered seven blocks, three kills and three digs. Ramirez tallied four kills and four blocks, while Mascardo had nine digs and one ace.
The Nitros were swept by visiting Arcadia, 11-25, 19-25, 18-25, in a league match on April 8.
Ramirez finished with five kills and three blocks, while Shimasaki tallied nine assists, three digs and one block. Mascardo collected eight digs, while Haboian was credited with seven assists. Tran recorded three digs, two kills and one block, senior Thomas Gonzales registered two kills and two blocks, and Whiting had four blocks, one kill and one dig.
Glendale defeated Legacy High of South Gate 25-16 in the Bronze Division Championship of the Atlantic Classic Tournament on April 6.
The Nitros defeated Panorama, 25-17, in the semifinals after beating Bell, 25-10, in the quarterfinals. Glendale picked up a win by forfeit against Banning High of Wilmington but suffered a pair of pool play losses against Jordan High of Los Angeles, 22-25, 22-25, and Math and Science College Preparatory of Los Angeles, 20-25, 12-25. Individual statistics were not reported to the News-Press.
Glendale (14-9, 2-5) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league match on April 16 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on April 18.

HOOVER

Hoover High School’s Nathan Baneham recorded six kills during a nonleague match against Muir High on April 9.

The Tornados lost in four games at Muir High in Pasadena, 15-25, 13-25, 26-24, 20-25, in a nonleague match on April 9.
Nathan Baneham recorded six kills and two blocks, while Dylan Serrato finished with five kills and five blocks. Rostyslov Dykyl tallied two kills and two blocks, while Peter Villa registered three kills.
Hoover (0-6 overall) will host Muir High for its season finale on April 16 at 3:45 p.m.
