Virgil Mae (Mickie) Mulvihill

Virgil Mae Stanford Mulvihill was born on April 15, 1930, in Blythe, Georgia to Edward Virgil and Lula Mae Newman Stanford. Known as Mickie by her family and friends in California and Virgie Mae by her relatives and friends in Georgia. Mickie Mulvihill died peacefully at her Glendale, CA home August 21, 2022.

She lived a devoted life of love, sacrifice, and service to her husband, children, relatives, friends, neighbors and community. She was a woman of faith and a devoted practicing Catholic. Mickie was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Sarah and Lois and her husband Bill who she shared 57 years of marriage with and raised seven children, five boys and two girls in that order.

She supported her family, in-laws and community as a career Registered Nurse for several decades. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Knights of Columbus. Mickie was well traveled setting up households for her family in California, Japan, Colorado, Texas, and Australia while supporting her husband’s twenty-year Air Force Career.

Beyond her many roles as wife, mother, friend, and nurse Mickie was poet. Her poetry was near and dear to her heart and a creative expression of her love and compassion. Her writing brought her joy and was a treasured gift she shared with her family. She loved spending time and caring for her family, and her grand and great grandchildren who brought her enormous joy.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Jack and Barbara Padget; In-laws Michael and Anne Mulvihill and Peggy Gudelman, as well as her children Bill, Paul, Ron, David, Patrick, Maureen, and Darlene; and many grand and great grandchildren. She taught us how to live. She taught us how to love.
