Partnership Gives Theater Education a Boost

The Glendale Educational Foundation, the Antaeus Theatre Company and the Glendale Unified School District are joining forces to bring dynamic, hands-on, theater-based learning into the classrooms.
The partnership gives GUSD students the opportunity to connect one-on-one with Antaeus Theater professionals and attend free matinee performances for the 2023-24 school term.
“The arts education alliance between the Glendale Educational Foundation, Glendale Unified School District, and Antaeus is a demonstrable example of educational excellence powered by partnership,” GEF Board President Robert Gordon said.
Specialized, in-classroom workshops will be conducted by theater professionals. These meetings will focus on breaking down critical thinking techniques and exploring themes presented in the season’s latest production. The workshops will also teach theater basics to prepare students for what to expect in the production.
Students will also get a chance to interact and question theater personnel during a post-show Q&A session following a free matinee performance of the latest Antaeus world-class production.
“We are thrilled to launch this new partnership with GEF and GUSD, and we can’t wait to provide this vital arts education programming for students in our local Glendale community,” said Ana Rose O’Halloran, Antaeus producing executive director.
The partnership officially kicked off on Monday when foundation leaders presented a $5,000 grant check to the Antaeus board of directors.
GEF Executive Director Romie Ruiz said the “high-caliber partnerships now form an integral part of GEF’s mission work in the Glendale community with GEF modifying the traditional grantmaking process by creating action and results-based impact through dynamic programing to further enhance and enrich GUSD’s learning experiences.”
The mission of the Glendale Educational Foundation is to enhance the education programs of the Glendale Unified School District by engaging community partners to invest in future leaders. GEF’s mission work is to support every school and every student of GUSD. For more information about the partnership between GEF and Antaeus Theatre, contact Romie Ruiz at (310) 801-6357.
