Falcons, Tornados Fall in CIF Openers

A pair of doubles sweeps was not enough for Crescenta Valley as the Falcons narrowly lost to Whitney High in games, 9-9 (74-70), in the CIF Southern Section Division II first-round matchup at Glendale High on Tuesday.
Falcons No. 1 pair Gabriella Rouveyrol and Nicolette Aghabegian swept their side by scores of 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, and No. 2 duo Liudmila Abadzheva and Elena Manuelian won all three of their matches 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.
Doubles No. 3 pair Hailee Yoon and Allison Bashar came away with a 6-1 victory for Crescenta Valley, ranked No. 10 in Division II and the designated home team in the playoff opener.
Crescenta Valley No. 2 singles player Natalie Mirbegian earned a 6-3 set victory, as did No. 3 Claudia Chmielewski against her opponent from Whitney, which as a team finished runner-up in the 605 League.
The Falcons finished the season as Pacific League runner-up behind champion Arcadia.

HOOVER
The Tornados fell to No. 2-seeded Cate School 15-3 in the CIF Southern Section Division III playoff opener. Individual results were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
The Tornados entered the playoffs as the fourth-placed team in the Pacific League. Cate was the Tri-Valley League champion.
