Boys’ Volleyball: Nitros Secure Season Sweep Over Tornados

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ volleyball team swept visiting Burbank, 25-10, 25-17, 25-19, in a Pacific League match on April 3.
Joshua Sohn racked up 36 assists, seven digs, two blocks and one ace, while Logan Freemon finished with 20 kills, five digs, three aces and one block. Benjamin Hart contributed eight kills and six digs, while Colin Walley recorded seven kills, one block and one dig. Sena Hunter chipped in four kills, Aubrey Peterson tallied three kills and one assist, and Ryan Levering registered two kills. Mason Park was credited with one kill and one dig, Matthew Lee had one kill, and Matt Hong collected two digs and one assist.
The Falcons lost to visiting Burroughs High of Burbank in four games, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 24-26, in a league match on March 29.
Sohn finished with 33 assists, six digs, three blocks and one ace, while Freemon racked up 19 kills, six digs, two aces and one block. Hunter recorded eight kills, while Walley tallied five kills, two blocks and one assist. Levering contributed four kills, while Peterson chipped in three kills. Matt Hong registered 13 digs and one assist, Hart produced seven digs, two aces, one kill and one assist, and Tyler Hong was credited with six digs and four aces. Park had two aces, while Jayden Pang collected two digs.
Crescenta Valley (18-7 overall, 4-2 in league) will host Pasadena for a league match on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting its 21st annual Crescenta Valley Varsity Tournament on April 12 and 13.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School junior Benjamin Salmeron finished with three kills to help the Nitros sweep Hoover High in a nonleague match on April 2.

Junior Tad Whiting registered 13 kills and three blocks, senior Koko Haboian was credited with 16 assists, and junior Caleb Shimasaki tallied 12 assists, four aces and one block. Senior Nick Ramirez finished with six kills, two digs and one ace, while senior Thomas Gonzales recorded five kills. Senior Ibrahim Alnaqib contributed five digs, four kills and one block, while junior Benjamin Salmeron chipped in three kills. Junior Raul Martinez produced two kills and two blocks, while freshman Isaiah Mascardo had three digs and one ace.
Glendale swept host Pasadena, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23, in a Pacific League match on March 29.
Haboian finished with 19 assists and three aces, Shimasaki was credited with 17 assists, and Whiting recorded 12 kills and nine blocks. Salmeron registered seven kills and six blocks, while Alnaqib chipped in seven kills. Gonzales contributed seven blocks and six kills, while Ramirez produced six kills, four blocks and three digs. Mascardo tallied eight digs and one assist, while Martinez had five blocks and two kills.
The Nitros (10-4, 2-2) will host Arcadia for a league match on April 8 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Burbank on April 9.

HOOVER
The Tornados were swept at Glendale, 11-25, 12-25, 14-25, in a nonleague match on April 2.
Dylan Serrato recorded five kills and one block, Egor Kondrashov finished with eight assists and two aces, and Armen Tormasyan contributed three blocks and two kills.
Hoover (0-5 overall) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a nonleague match on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting the Mustangs for its season finale on April 16.
