Falcons, Nitros Come Away With Pair of League Wins

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ tennis team routed visiting Muir High of Pasadena 17-1 in a Pacific League match on Oct. 3.
In singles matches, No. 1 Anna Poghosyan swept with scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0. No. 2 Ariah Armen won a set with a 6-0 score before alternating with Gabriella Rouveyrol, who added two wins with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. No. 3 Hailee Yoon won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Ramya Kumarasuriar and Claudia Chmielewski earned a sweep, winning all three sets with scores of 6-0. The No. 2 duo of Faith Woo and Linnea Russell swept their matches with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. The No. 3 pairing of Liudmila Abadzheva and Elena Manuelian secured a set with a 6-0 score before alternating with Natalie Mirbegian and Allison Bashar, who completed the sweep with a pair of 6-0 wins.
The Falcons crushed visiting Hoover High 17-1 in a league matchup on Sept. 28.
In the singles category, No. 1 Anais Khachatryan won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. No. 2 Mirbegian swept her matches with scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1. No. 3 Chmielewski also swept with scores of 6-0, 6-4 and 6-0.
In the doubles matches, the No. 1 team of Nicolette Aghabegian and Rouveyrol secured a set with a 6-3 score. Aghabegian rotated with Bashar, and together with Rouveyrol, the new duo added two wins with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. The No. 2 duo of Abadzheva and Manuelian won a set with a 6-3 score. Manuelian alternated with Russell, and this new pairing with Abadzheva added two wins with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. The No. 3 pairing of Kumarasuriar and Yoon won a set with a 6-2 score. Kumarasuriar rotated with Woo, and the new pairing with Yoon contributed two wins with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Crescenta Valley will visit Pasadena for a league contest on Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on Oct. 12.


GLENDALE
The Nitros blanked visiting Pasadena 18-0 in a Pacific League match on Oct. 3.
In the singles matches, No. 2 Lori Torosyan and No. 3 Gohar Barseghyan both secured clean sweeps with a trio of 6-0 scores. No. 1 Natalie Mirzakhanyan also swept her opponents with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0.
In the doubles category, the No. 1 team of Lilit Arakelyan and Gohar Harutyunyan swept their matches with scores of 7-5, 6-3 and 6-0. The No. 3 duo of Pauline Tekelian and Yeva Sirakanyan also swept with scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2. The No. 2 pairing of Marie Kaloghlian and Garine Melkonian won two sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-0 before alternating with Kristy Tarbinian and Medrisya Minassian, who contributed a 6-1 win.
Glendale defeated host Muir High in Pasadena 15-3 in a league contest on Sept. 28.
The No. 1 doubles team of Tarbinian and Minassian secured a sweep, winning all three sets with scores of 6-0. The No. 2 tandem of Anahit Nazlovan and Julie Sarad swept their matches with scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0. The No. 3 pairing of Emma Bagramyan and Isabell Djrandjian won two sets with identical 6-0 scores. Bagramyan alternated with Mirzakhanyan, and the new duo with Djrandjian earned a 6-1 set win.
In the singles category, No. 1 Arakelyan won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-0. No. 3 Barseghyan also secured two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. No. 2 Torosyan won a set with a 6-0 score before alternating with Sirakanyan, who added a 6-3 victory.
The Nitros will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league matchup on Oct. 10 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Burbank on Oct. 12.

HOOVER
The Tornados lost at Burbank 12-6 in a league matchup on Oct. 3.
The No. 1 doubles team of Katherine Nalchajyan and Ani Weimar won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 7-6 (8-6). The No. 2 tandem of Malvina Karapetyan and Evenna Amirian also had a solid performance, winning two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
The No. 3 pairing of Anita Avitisyan and Kirsten Canon contributed with a set victory of 6-3, while No. 2 singles player Alexandra Nemirovskaya won a set with a score of 6-4.
Hoover lost at Crescenta Valley High 17-1 in a league showdown on Sept. 28 as No. 2 Nemirovskaya won the lone set with a 6-4 score.
The Tornados will host Arcadia for a league match on Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Muir High in Pasadena on Oct. 12.
