Glendale athletes, and others from around the globe, will be representing their city as the Republic of Armenia hosts the eighth Pan-Armenian Games in a vibrant showcase of sportsmanship and cultural unity.
This grand event, occurring every four years, will be hosted this year from Aug. 5 to Aug. 19.
The opening ceremony will take place in the city of Gyumri — Armenia’s second largest city — signaling the start of the games which begin the following day in the capital city of Yerevan. Athletes will compete across a range of sports until the closing ceremony in Yerevan.
Glendale will again be strongly represented at the games, led by Homenetmen Ararat’s esteemed coaches and athletes. The Glendale team has a rich history in the games, notably winning the men’s and women’s basketball championships in 2019, along with capturing multiple medals in women’s volleyball, swimming and table tennis.
This year, Glendale and Glendale-Montrose are sending an impressive delegation of more than 100 athletes, coaches and leaders. They will compete in various sports, including men’s basketball (with two teams), women’s basketball, soccer, futsal, women’s volleyball, table tennis and tennis.
“We are incredibly proud to represent our city on a global stage,” said Homenetmen Ararat Executive Director Serge Grakasian. “Our athletes are prepared to honor Glendale’s legacy of excellence in the Pan-Armenian Games.”
