Falcons, Nitros, Tornados Win League Openers

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ water polo team defeated host Muir High in Pasadena, 13-6, in its Pacific League opener on Tuesday, as senior Izzy Nolte racked up a game-high six goals.
Junior goalie Miranda Graham recorded five saves, senior Mayda Hartounian and sophomore Ani Thomasian each scored a pair of goals, and seniors Sydney Lansang, Ann Donohoe and Liana Kazarian each scored once.
The Falcons (3-7 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Pasadena for a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 3:30 p.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School sophomore Mia Gonzalez and the Nitros won their Pacific League opener against Pasadena this week.

The Nitros defeated visiting Pasadena, 15-6, in their Pacific League opener on Tuesday, as sophomores Leah Gaddes and Ani Ttuyan each recorded a game-high four goals.
Sophomore Brina Brati tallied three goals while sophomores Inessa Khajehgian and Armine Zelveyan each scored twice.
Glendale (7-10 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 3:30 p.m.

HOOVER

The Tornados lost a nonleague game at Marlborough High in Los Angeles, 19-3, on Wednesday. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Hoover previously defeated visiting Burbank, 9-7, in its Pacific League opener, as Adriana Harutyunyan and Ellysee Baker each produced three goals. Juliana Aviles tallied two goals while Leah Gomez finished with one goal.
The Tornados (4-7 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Arcadia in a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 3:30 p.m.
