Marginalized Students Need Our Support

First published in the June 4 print issue of the Glendale News Press.

It’s been incredibly heartening to see several letters from readers showing support to our marginalized students, and to those teachers and board members speaking up in support.
Far too often the combined anti-union, anti-educator stances that hide behind “what about the children” rhetoric conceal much uglier intentions.
Frankly, I am not concerned by any critical race theory teaching (which isn’t happening) or gender and/or sex education (which is much needed) happening in Glendale, but am absolutely concerned with those parents who seem to be teaching that it is OK for their children to use racial and homophobic slurs.
