James “Jim” Comingore

James “Jim” Comingore, beloved husband, father, brother, and artist, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2023, at his home in Sylmar, CA. He was 72 years old.
Jim was born June 21, 1951, in San Francisco, CA, to parents Margaret and Harold Comingore, before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 4. He was the fourth of six siblings; his older brothers William “Bill” and Gregory “Greg,” and older sister Sandra “Sandy,” as well as his two younger sisters, Debra “Debbie” and Sally. Jim attended Glendale High School, graduating in the class of 1969 alongside dear friends who he remained in close contact with throughout his adult life. Following high school, Jim received his associate’s degree in Business from Glendale Community College. In 1977, at the age of 26, Jim met his wife Robin Comingore, née Moston, to whom he was a beloved husband and partner for 43 years. Together they welcomed three daughters, Alyson, Rachel, and Jessica, to whom Jim was both a devoted father and a lifelong confidant.
An accomplished salesman of over 40 years, Jim worked his way up the ranks from delivery driver to account manager for Bohemian Distributing Co., then Southern Wine & Spirits, before retiring in 2015. During his tenure, Jim helped build and grow accounts at some of L.A.’s most iconic establishments, including the Magic Castle and the Dresden Room, while also forging close relationships with many of his clients-turned-friends.
In retirement, Jim returned to the art making he excelled at in his youth. In his home studio, he created hundreds of paintings and artworks. While he often gravitated towards acrylic and canvas, his vibrant and expressive abstractions included works with paper, reclaimed wood, pen, pencil, pastels, and found objects. Though he never considered himself a professional artist, his paintings were shown by the Los Angeles Art Association, and featured in a group exhibition at La Galeria Gitana in 2019.
In his spare time, Jim loved to golf, and was a beloved member of the Men’s Club at El Cariso Golf Course. He was an animal lover, and spent many years raising and training German shepherds with his father in his youth. He was also an avid music fan, with a penchant for the folk and rock icons he grew up listening to, like Neil Young, Jefferson Airplane, and Bob Dylan. He enjoyed many sports, but was happiest on the golf course and at the race track — especially when he was winning.
To those who knew him socially, Jim will be remembered for his charisma, wit, creativity, and seemingly endless arsenal of jokes. For those that knew him closely, he will also be deeply missed for his kindness, compassion, generosity, and unwavering empathy for others.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Robin Comingore, as well as his daughters Alyson Comingore, Rachel Comingore, and Jessica Comingore Donais, and sisters Sally Ann Treder and Sandra Lee Murphy.
