Nonprofit Door of Hope Receives $150,000

The nonprofit Door of Hope was awarded a $150,000 check to help bolster its operations as a shelter for domestic violence survivors.
The funds will provide services including employment, mental health, case management support and housing navigation services.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger presented the $150,000 check to the organization, which has operated a domestic violence shelter since 2019.
“Door of Hope is running a successful sheltering program for women and their children, showing up for them at their darkest hour and preventing a fall into homelessness,” Barger said. “I am a proud supporter of their mission to help domestic violence survivors. I wholeheartedly know these funds will be put to good use.”
Door of Hope’s shelter is currently serving 14 families and has plans to expand their capacity in the coming months. About 75% of clients are referred by a local YWCA emergency shelter and 25% arrive after staying at other emergency shelters.
The Rev. Megan Katerjian, Door of Hope’s chief executive officer, has been at the organization’s helm since 2017.
“We’ve gone through a lot of changes over the past six years, including becoming more trauma-informed in our approach and repurposing space so we can shelter more families,” said Rev. Katerjian. “The pandemic created a lot of stress at home and domestic violence rates shot up, so we’re seeing more need, too. I appreciate Supervisor Barger’s support of faith-based organizations like ours. Door of Hope is honored to partner with her to help vulnerable families in need.”
Over 87% of Door of Hope’s clients have gone on to find their own permanent home. Approximately 78% of families increased their income and 82% increased their savings during their time in the program last year.
