Boys’ Tennis: Sweeps in Singles, Doubles Helps Hoover Top Pasadena

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ tennis team lost at Arcadia 13-5 in a Pacific League match on March 12.
In singles, No. 1 Jaidyn Finley won a pair of sets with identical 6-3 scores, while No. 3 Sean Yusin added a 6-2 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of Hochan Lee and Daniel Lee won a set with a 6-3 score, while the No. 3 tandem of Matthew Park and Stephen Jung added a 7-5 victory.
The Falcons lost at Flintridge Prep 10-8 in a nonleague match on March 11.
The No. 1 doubles team of Ethan Kim and Daniel Lee swept with scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3, while the No. 3 tandem of Caleb Kook and Justin Kim won a pair of sets with identical 6-2 scores. The No. 3 duo of Hochan Lee and Kevin Cho won a pair of sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Park alternated with Hochan Lee, and the new pair completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory.
Crescenta Valley overwhelmed host St. Francis High in La Cañada Flintridge with a 16-2 nonleague victory on March 8.
Singles play featured No. 1 Aiden Kim (6-0, 6-1, 6-2) and No. 3 Yusin (6-0, 6-0, 6-2), who each swept their sides. No. 2 Joshua Kook won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3. The No. 1 doubles team of Caleb Kook and Justin Kim won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-4. The No. 2 tandem of Hochan Lee and Daniel Lee won a pair of sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Jung alternated with Hochan Lee, and the new pairing added a 6-0 victory to complete the sweep. The No. 3 duo of Ethan Kim and Joseph Choi won a pair of sets with scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Dobin Chung and Park rotated with Ethan Kim and Choi for the finale set and added a 6-3 victory to complete the sweep.
Crescenta Valley (6-4 overall, 3-2 in league) will visit Glendale for a league match on March 28 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Flintridge Prep on April 1.

HOOVER
The Tornados secured a narrow 10-8 Pacific League victory at Pasadena on March 13.
No. 1 singles Alec Avedisian swept with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2. No. 2 Daniel Shakaryan won a pair of sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-0, while No. 3 Ben Kim added a 6-1 victory.
The No. 1 doubles team of Alec Sarkissian and Vincent Abechian swept with scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, while the No. 2 tandem of Chris Kim and Edgar Balasian added a 6-2 victory.
Hoover defeated host Glendale 11-7 in a league match on March 12.
No. 1 Avedisian (6-0, 6-0, 6-4) and No. 2 Shakaryan (6-0, 6-0, 6-1) each swept in singles play, while No. 3 Ben Kim added a 6-1 victory. The No. 1 doubles team of Abechian and Sarkissian swept with scores of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, while the No. 2 tandem of Chris Kim and Daron Momjian added a 6-3 victory.
The Tornados (2-4 in league) will visit Burbank for a league match on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on March 28.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost to visiting Hoover High 12-6 in a Pacific League match on March 12.
No. 1 Lazar Ratkovic won a set, 6-1, No. 2 Armen Paruryan tallied a 6-4 victory, and the No. 3 doubles team of Dvin Badal Hayrapetian and Vova Margaryan added a 6-1 victory.
The No. 1 tandem of Leo Petrosyan and Amari Richarson won a pair of sets with identical 6-2 scores, while the No. 2 duo of Leo de Guademar and Robert Aviles won a pair of sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Glendale (0-6, 0-5) will host Pasadena for a league match on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High on March 28.
