Boys’ Volleyball: Falcons Cruise Past Nitros in League Win

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated host Pasadena in four games, 27-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, in a Pacific League match on March 12. The Falcons swept visiting Glendale, 25-19, 25-22, 25-17, in their league opener on March 7. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Crescenta Valley (16-4 overall, 2-0 in league) will visit St. Francis High in La Cañada Flintridge for a nonleague match on March 22 at 6 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on March 27.

GLENDALE
The Nitros defeated visiting Burbank in four games, 25-14, 22-25, 25-9, 25-19, in a Pacific League match on March 12.
Junior Caleb Shimasaki registered 12 assists, 10 digs and three kills, while junior Quan Tran finished with 11 digs, nine kills, three blocks and two aces. Freshman Isaiah Mascardo contributed 10 digs and eight assists, while junior Benjamin Salmeron tallied 13 blocks. Junior Tad Whiting recorded eight blocks, seven kills and one ace, while senior Koko Haboian produced eight assists and five digs. Senior Nick Ramirez collected six digs and four kills, while senior Thomas Gonzales had four blocks and three kills.
Glendale was swept at Crescenta Valley High, 19-25, 22-25, 17-25, in its league opener on March 7.
Whiting produced seven kills, three blocks and two digs, Gonzales registered five kills, four blocks and one dig, and Ramirez recorded five kills and two digs. Tran finished with 11 digs, one kill, one assist and one block, while Mascardo tallied 11 digs and two assists. Shimasaki contributed eight assists, six digs, two kills and one block, while Haboian was credited with six assists and three digs.
The Nitros (7-3, 1-1) will host Burroughs High of Burbank for a league match on March 27 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on March 29.

HOOVER
The Tornados have been on a break since losing at Pasadena in a nonleague match on March 5. Hoover will host Glendale for a nonleague match on March 25 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Compton Early College on March 27.
