Baseball: Herman, Sellars Send Falcons Past Pasadena

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team defeated visiting Pasadena 8-2 in a Pacific League game on March 12.
Freshman Gunner Herman pitched four innings with four strikeouts, while junior Sam Sellars pitched three innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Cole Richards went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and a run, while senior Brandon Kwon went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Junior Chris Torres registered a hit, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, junior Jacob Mucic finished with a hit, a run and a stolen base, and junior Dashiell Schultz produced a hit and an RBI. Senior Jacob Deno recorded a double, sophomore Brock Robeson contributed a hit and a stolen base, and sophomore Dante Cerecedes and freshman Mike Herman each tallied a hit. Junior Jimmy Spears walked twice, scored a pair of runs and stole a base, while sophomore Travis Phillips scored a run.
The Falcons overwhelmed visiting Glendale with a 12-2 league victory on March 8. Junior Colin Moore pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.
Schultz went 2-for-4 with a double, three stolen bases, two runs and an RBI, senior Jake Rendo slugged a solo home run, and Spears registered a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Deno finished with a hit, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base, Phillips contributed a hit, an RBI and a stolen base, and Kwon tallied a hit and a run. Torres recorded two walks, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, while Mike Herman and Mucic each walked once and scored a run. Robeson was credited with an RBI and a stolen base, while senior Wyatt Lambert and Richards each scored a run.
Crescenta Valley (6-4 overall, 4-1 in league) will host Canyon High of Canyon Country for a nonleague game on March 16 at 6 p.m. before hosting Providence High of Burbank on March 18.

HOOVER
The Tornados posted an 11-8 nonleague victory over visiting Eagle Rock High of Los Angeles on March 13.
Senior Julian Corral, who had three runs, an RBI and a walk at the plate, pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, while junior Jude Maldonado, who had a hit, two RBIs and a run at the plate, pitched two innings with two strikeouts. Sophomore Owen Marks pitched 3 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.
Freshman Alex Weimar recorded a hit, two runs, an RBI and a walk, senior Bryan Olmedo and junior Enzo Mitchell each finished with a hit, an RBI and a run, and sophomore Daniel Cano contributed a hit and two RBIs. Junior Gabriel Flores tallied a walk, an RBI and a run, freshman Jack Coppersmith walked once and scored a run, and senior Isaiah Alvarado scored a run and stole a base.
Hoover was shut out by visiting Arcadia in an 11-0 Pacific League loss on March 12 as Corral recorded a hit and a stolen base. Sophomore Jordan Mahler pitched three innings with one strikeout, senior Olmedo pitched one inning with one strikeout and Marks pitched a perfect inning.
The Tornados lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 21-4 in a league game on March 8.
Olmedo went 2-for-3, while Mahler recorded a double. Cano produced a hit, a run and a walk, Weimar contributed a hit and an RBI, and Mitchell tallied a base hit. Corral finished with three stolen bases and two runs, Alvarado and Flores were each credited with an RBI and a walk, and Park walked once and scored a run.
Hoover (2-8-1, 0-5) will host Eagle Rock High for a nonleague game on March 18 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Yeshiva University of Los Angeles on March 20.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost to visiting Burbank 7-5 in a Pacific League game on March 12.
Junior Garo Manuelian, who walked once and scored a run at the plate, pitched four innings with four strikeouts, while junior Ace Baker pitched three innings with two strikeouts. Junior Joseph Tapia went 2-for-3 with two runs and a pair of walks, while senior Jason Martinez registered a hit, two RBIs and two walks. Junior Dante Vasquez finished with a hit, a run and two walks, while senior Aaron Aguayo tallied a base hit. Senior Austin Aldrete was credited with two RBIs and a walk, senior Sheantell Cruz walked once and scored a run, and senior Alex Idolor walked once.
Glendale lost at Crescenta Valley High 12-2 in a league game on March 8.
Aldrete pitched three innings, while Baker pitched two innings with two strikeouts. Vasquez registered a triple and a run, Cruz finished with a hit and a stolen base, and Tapia recorded a hit and a walk. Martinez tallied a base hit, while Baker collected an RBI and a run.
The Nitros (3-10, 1-4) will visit Marshall Fundamental in Pasadena for a nonleague game on March 16 at 11 a.m. before visiting Wilson High on March 18.
