Boys’ Volleyball: Glendale Rebounds, Crescenta Valley Sweeps

The Glendale High School varsity boys’ volleyball team picked up a four-game victory against visiting Firebaugh High of Lynwood, 25-11, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, in a nonleague match on Feb. 27.
Senior Ib Alnaqib registered 10 digs, eight kills and four blocks, while junior Tad Whiting finished with 10 blocks, seven kills, two assists and two aces. Junior Benjamin Salmeron contributed 13 blocks and four kills, while senior Thomas Gonzales tallied nine blocks and five kills. Junior Raul Martinez recorded eight kills and four blocks, while senior Nick Ramirez chipped in seven kills. Junior Caleb Shimasaki racked up 17 assists and one kill, senior Koko Haboian produced 16 assists, two digs and one ace, and freshman Isaiah Mascardo had seven digs, three assists and one ace.
The Nitros lost to visiting Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge in four games, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 23-25, in a nonleague match on Feb. 23.
Whiting finished with 10 blocks, eight kills and two aces, Salmeron produced 11 blocks and three kills, and Haboian was credited with 13 assists and two aces. Shimasaki tallied six assists, three blocks, two aces and one kill, while Gonzales contributed seven blocks and four kills. Ramirez recorded four kills and three digs, while Alnaqib had four kills and one ace.
Glendale (4-2 overall) will visit Maranatha High in Pasadena for a nonleague match on March 4 at 4 p.m. before opening Pacific League play at Crescenta Valley High on March 7.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
The Falcons swept visiting Claremont, 25-19, 30-28, 25-20, in a nonleague match on Feb. 28. Crescenta Valley picked up a four-game victory against visiting California High of Whittier, 24-26, 25-16, 25-13, 25-22, in a nonleague match on Feb. 23. Individual statistics were not reported to the News-Press.
Crescenta Valley (8-1) will visit South Pasadena for a nonleague match on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. before hosting Glendale for its Pacific League opener on March 7.

HOOVER
The Tornados are scheduled to visit Pasadena for a nonleague match on March 5 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Northridge Academy on March 13.
