Boys’ Tennis: Falcons Win League Match Behind Doubles Sweep

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ tennis team lost at La Cañada 11-7 in a nonleague match on Feb. 28.
Falcons No. 1 singles player Aiden Kim won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3, while No. 3 Ethan Kim (6-2) and No. 2 Sean Yusin (6-3) each won a set. The No. 1 doubles team of Dylan Kim and Easan Hamkins won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3, while the No. 2 tandem of Joseph Choi and Hochan Lee added a 7-5 victory.
The Falcons picked up a 15-3 victory at Glendale in a Pacific League match on Feb. 27. Individual statistics were not reported to the News-Press.
Crescenta Valley posted an 8-2 victory at Marshall High in Los Angeles in a rain-shortened nonleague match on Feb. 26.
The No. 1 doubles team of Hochan Lee and Choi swept with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0. The No. 2 tandem of Daniel Lee and Joshua Kook (6-1, 6-2), and the No. 3 duo of Dylan Kim and Stephen Jung (6-4, 6-0) each won a pair of sets, while No. 2 Aiden Kim added a 7-6 (7-5) victory.
The Falcons defeated host Hoover High in Glendale 14-4 in a league match on Feb. 23, as the No. 1 doubles team of Dylan Kim and Hamkins earned a sweep with a trio of 6-0 scores.
No. 3 Yusin won a pair of sets with scores of 7-6 (7-2) and 6-2. No. 1 Aiden Kim won a set, 6-3, before alternating with Kevin Cho, who added a 6-2 victory. No. 2 Ethan Kim won a set, 6-3, before alternating with Caleb Kook, who added a 6-2 victory.
The No. 2 tandem of Choi and Hochan Lee won two sets with identical 6-0 scores. Hochan Lee alternated with Matthew Park, and the new pairing added a 6-2 victory. The No. 3 duo of Joshua Kook and Daniel Lee won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Crescenta Valley secured a narrow 10-8 victory at Temple City in its season opener on Feb. 22.
The No. 2 doubles team of Ethan Kim and Hamkins swept with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 and 6-1. The No. 3 tandem of Choi and Hochan Lee won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-4. The duo substituted with Park and Cho, who added a 6-4 victory.
The No. 1 team of Joshua Kook and Daniel Lee won a pair of sets with identical 6-2 scores, while No. 2 Ethan Kim (6-2) and No. 3 Aiden Kim (6-3) each won a set.
Crescenta Valley (4-1 overall, 2-0 in league) will travel to Burroughs High in Burbank for a league match on March 5 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Burbank on March 7.

HOOVER
The Tornados lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 16-2 in a Pacific League match on Feb. 27.
No. 1 Alec Avedisian won a set, 6-0, while the No. 1 doubles team of Vincent Abechian and Alec Sarkissian added a 7-5 victory.
Hoover lost to visiting Crescenta Valley 14-4 in a league match on Feb. 23.
No. 1 Avedisian swept with scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3, while the No. 1 doubles team of Abechian and Sarkissian added a 6-4 victory.
The Tornados were shut out by visiting Burbank 18-0 in a league match on Feb. 22
Hoover (0-3 in league) will visit Pasadena for a league match on March 7 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on March 12.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost to visiting Crescenta Valley 15-3 in a Pacific League match on Feb. 27. Glendale previously lost at Pasadena, 11-7, in a league match on Feb. 22. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Glendale (0-3, 0-2) will visit Burbank for a league match on March 5 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Arcadia on March 7.
