Najarian, Zargarian Propel Falcons Past Burroughs

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated visiting Burroughs High of Burbank 75-54 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 23.
Senior Derek Najarian racked up 22 points, seven assists, six rebounds and one block, while junior Vaughn Zargarian poured in 20 points with seven rebounds and one block. Senior Logan Freemon posted a double-double with 13 rebounds, 10 points, two steals, two assists and one block, while junior Michael Sahagian registered 14 points and two rebounds. Senior Nick Altounian chipped in four points, three rebounds and two assists, senior Tishan Ahir scored three points, and senior Grikor Moghoyan recorded two points, two rebounds and two assists. Senior Lachlan Blunt collected one rebound, while sophomore Andrew Ghazarian was credited with one assist.
The Falcons lost to Oakwood 73-64 in a Heritage Christian Showcase game on Jan. 20.
Najarian poured in 26 points with two rebounds and one steal, while Zargarian finished with 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal. Altounian recorded five rebounds and four points, while Sahagian tallied four points and two assists. Freemon contributed 11 rebounds, three points and two steals, while freshman Dylan Shaghoian scored three points. Blunt registered two steals and one rebound, while Moghoyan had one steal.
Crescenta Valley picked up a 72-42 victory at Hoover High on Jan. 19 as Zargarian racked up 23 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block.
Sophomore Arman Bedrossian poured in 12 points with seven rebounds and one steal, while Najarian registered 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. Sahagian produced eight points, one rebound and one assist, while Shaghoian tallied six points and three rebounds. Altounian recorded three points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist, while Ahir chipped in three points and one rebound. Moghoyan finished with two points, two assists, two steals and one rebound, Blunt contributed two points and two rebounds, and Ghazarian had two points and one rebound. Senior Ben Hart collected three rebounds, while Freemon had two rebounds and one block.
The Falcons (19-6 overall, 9-2 in league) will host Glendale for a league game on Jan. 30 at 5:15 p.m. before visiting Arcadia for their regular-season finale on Feb. 1.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Mika Petrosian scored six points during a Pacific League match against Arcadia on Jan. 23.

The Nitros lost at Arcadia 85-65 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 23.
Senior Christian Pierre finished with 20 points, junior Joshua Ballard poured in 17 points and senior Haig Jivalagian scored 10 points. Senior Mika Petrosian and junior Roman Ramirez each chipped in six points, sophomore Mason Manalo tallied three points and senior Cayden Mailed had one point.
Glendale suffered an 80-49 league loss at Pasadena on Jan. 20.
Pierre scored 16 points, while Petrosian contributed 12 points. Ballard and Jivalagian each recorded six points, while senior Anthony Agakhanyan, junior Daniel Soliman and Manalo each had three points.
The Nitros picked up an 80-68 league victory over visiting Muir High of Pasadena on Jan. 19.
Ballard registered 21 points, Pierre poured in 18 points and Petrosian recorded 11 points. Jivalagian finished with seven points, senior Harout Karapetyan scored six points and Mailed and Ramirez each tallied five points. Senior Rein Rigor chipped in three points, while Manalo had one point.
Glendale (15-10, 5-6) will visit Crescenta Valley High for a league game on Jan. 30 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Hoover High for its regular-season finale on Feb. 1.

HOOVER

Hoover High School senior Michael Shamoun recorded 17 points and nine rebounds to help the Tornados beat Muir High in a Pacific League matchup on Jan. 23.

Senior Zakhary Van Patten posted a double-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block, while senior Michael Shamoun poured in 17 points with nine rebounds, two steals and one assist. Sophomore Justin Herrera registered six rebounds, five points, five assists and two steals, junior Jaden Duncan tallied five points, two steals and one rebound, and senior Hagop Demirjian recorded four points, two rebounds and one assist. Junior Arin Tahmasian collected two rebounds, while senior Ethan Davis had one rebound.
