Falcons Hold Off Rival Arcadia in League Finale

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity football team defeated visiting Arcadia 20-14 in a Pacific League showdown on Oct. 27.
Senior Bjorn Hermansen completed one pass for a 54-yard touchdown. He also rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on eight carries while adding four receptions for 60 yards. Sophomore Xavier Thompson had three catches for 91 yards with a touchdown, while sophomore Leonidas Grant scored a 5-yard rushing touchdown.
Senior Jacob Deno completed 13 of 23 passes for 128 yards while also rushing for 25 yards on three carries. Senior Andranik Saryan had nine carries for 50 yards, made a pair of receptions for 12 yards and scored a two-point conversion. Defensively, Saryan tallied six tackles, a sack and caught an interception. Senior Cristian Flores rushed for 45 yards on eight carries, senior Lachlan Blunt caught three passes for 26 yards and junior Chander Thome had a 10-yard catch.
Senior Jackson Roehr and junior Tyler Matsuda each recorded six tackles, while senior Michael Clark contributed four tackles and a sack. Sophomore Torin Blunt tallied two tackles and a sack, while senior Jake Dunlavey, senior Nathan Martinez, junior Jesse Flores and junior Samvel Yengibaryan each chipped in two tackles.
The Falcons, who finished the regular season third in league with a 3-2 record (7-3 overall), opened the CIF Southern Section Division X playoffs at Kennedy High in La Palma (6-4) on Nov. 3; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, CVHS would advance to the quarterfinals and meet either Xavier Prep of Palm Desert (5-4) or La Quinta (6-4) on Nov. 10.
