Elementary Students Embrace Walk to School Day

Glendale Unified School District elementary students, including from Dunsmore Elementary, joined students from around the world in celebrating Walk to School Day on Wednesday. For the occasion, thousands of GUSD students walked beside their parents, teachers, district and community leaders to demonstrate the benefits of going to and from school on foot. “Glendale Unified recognizes the many benefits walking to school provides our students when it comes to health and safety. Walk to School Day is a great way for our students to stay physically active while also learning to navigate their environment,” said Lauren Cienfuegos, communications specialist at GUSD.

The Glendale Police Department joined John Marshall Elementary students on their journey to school. “Walking, biking and rolling to school promotes street safety, a clean environment, physical activity and a stronger sense of community,” said Sgt. Ryan Gunn. “In Glendale, we’re proud to say that year after year Glendale students and families, alongside GPD personnel, have had a fun and informative experience traveling to and from school outside of a car.”
