Baseball: Falcons Soar to Seventh Straight Victory

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team overwhelmed host Muir High in Pasadena with a 14-0 Pacific League victory on April 9. Junior Colin Moore pitched a complete game shutout with two strikeouts, one hit and no walks.
Senior Jacob Deno went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base, senior Jake Rendo went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, and sophomore Dante Cerecedes went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Senior Brandon Kwon went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a walk, while junior Jacob Mucic went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Freshman Mike Herman registered a hit, a run, a walk and a stolen base, junior Chris Torres tallied a hit, a run and a walk, and sophomore Travis Phillips produced a hit and a run. Freshman Cole Richards was credited with an RBI and a run, while junior Dashiell Schultz scored a run.
The Falcons posted a 9-2 nonleague victory over visiting Arroyo Grande on April 5. Moore pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts, while junior Sam Sellars pitched three innings with three strikeouts.
Deno went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, two stolen bases, two runs and two walks, while Schultz went 2-for-4 with two runs. Junior Jimmy Spears and Cerecedes each recorded a hit and two RBIs, while Herman tallied a base hit. Richards finished with three runs and two walks, Rendo walked once and stole a base, and Phillips scored a run and stole a base.
Crescenta Valley (16-5 overall, 8-1 in league) will visit Burbank for a league game on April 16 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting the Bulldogs on April 19.

GLENDALE

Glendale High School junior Joseph Tapia tallied a base hit during a Pacific League game against Arcadia on Tuesday.

The Nitros lost at Arcadia 9-1 in a Pacific League game on April 9.
Senior Xander Knur recorded a hit and a run, while senior Sheantell Cruz, senior Alex Idolor, senior Liam Roney and junior Joseph Tapia each tallied a base hit. Senior Austin Aldrete pitched three innings with three strikeouts, senior Jason Martinez pitched two innings and junior Derek Chalian pitched one inning with one strikeout.
Glendale suffered a 14-2 nonleague loss against visiting Arroyo Grande on April 6. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
The Nitros picked up a 7-3 nonleague victory at Golden Valley High in Santa Clarita on April 4 as Martinez went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a stolen base.
Junior Garo Manuelian pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts, while Chalian pitched four innings with three strikeouts. Aldrete recorded a hit, two runs, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base, junior Ace Baker finished with a hit, two stolen bases and a run, and Idolor registered a hit and a run. Senior Aaron Aguayo walked once, scored a run and stole a pair of bases, while Tapia was credited with two walks, an RBI and a run. Knur scored a run and stole a base, while Roney walked once.
Glendale (7-14, 2-7) will host Muir High of Pasadena for a league game on April 16 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting the Mustangs on April 19.

HOOVER

Glendale High School junior Joseph Tapia tallied a base hit during a Pacific League game against Arcadia on Tuesday.

The Tornados were shut out by visiting Burbank 5-0 in a Pacific League game on April 9.
Senior captain Julian Corral recorded a triple and a walk, while senior Steve Park and freshman Alex Weimar each tallied a base hit. Freshman Jesse Carbonneau pitched 3 2/3 innings with a strikeout, sophomore Jordan Mahler pitched 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, and senior captain Bryan Olmedo pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Hoover lost at Pasadena Polytechnic 13-3 in a nonleague game on April 5.
Carbonneau, who went 2-for-4 with a stolen base at the plate, pitched 3 2/3 innings with four strikeouts, while sophomore Owen Marks, who had a hit, a run and a walk at the plate, pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Olmedo went 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, while Mahler produced a double and a walk. Senior Isaiah Alvarado and freshman Kieran Sinta each recorded a hit, an RBI and a stolen base, sophomore Daniel Cano finished with a hit and an RBI, and Weimar tallied a base hit. Corral walked once and stole a base, while junior Gabriel Flores walked once.
The Tornados (3-15-1, 0-9) will host Pasadena for a league game on April 17 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on April 23.
