Nitros, Falcons Begin Pacific League Play on Right Foot

The Glendale High School varsity boys’ water polo team routed host Pasadena 24-4 in its Pacific League opener on Sept. 26 as Edgar Abnussi and Vardges Hakobyan each scored six goals.
Daniel Petrossian tallied four goals, while August Kalaba finished with three goals and two assists.
Artin Ghazaryan scored two goals. Nshan Demirtshyan, Arno Ghazaryan and Andrew Klujian each added one goal, while David Zakaryan made two saves.
The Nitros lost to visiting San Dimas 14-6 in a nonleague game on Sept. 25.
Zakaryan made six saves, while Arno Ghazaryan scored three goals. Kalaba tallied two goals, while Artin Ghazaryan had one goal and one assist.
Glendale competed in the Troy Invitational last weekend and finished with a 2-2 record after beating Cypress 10-8 in its tournament finale on Sept. 23.
Zakaryan produced nine saves, Artin Ghazaryan contributed three goals and one assist, and Kalaba scored three goals. Abnussi chipped in two goals, while Klujian and Aidan Fieda each finished with one goal.
The Nitros were edged by La Habra 10-9 to open the second day of tournament play on Sept. 23 as Zakaryan registered 10 saves and one steal.
Artin Ghazaryan produced four goals, while Kalaba scored three goals. Klujian contributed two goals, while Robert Lazaryan was credited with one assist.
Glendale posted a narrow 11-10 victory over South Pasadena to end the first day of tournament action on Sept. 22.

Glendale defeated host California High in Whittier 14-7 in a nonleague game on Sept. 21.

The Nitros (11-12 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Crescenta Valley High for a league game on Oct. 3 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on Oct. 5.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

Crescenta Valley High School’s Sebastian Rivera contributed six goals to help the Falcons beat Muir High in their Sept. 26 Pacific League opener.


The Falcons convincingly won its Pacific League opener at Muir High in Pasadena 18-7 on Sept. 26.
Mark Abdou amassed 20 saves, while Sebastian Rivera racked up six goals. Levon Babayan and Alex Movsesyan each scored three goals, Daron Alexanians tallied two goals, and Aaron Choi, Edgar Galstyan and Vince Kalachian each added one goal.
CVHS competed in the Villa Park Classic from Sept. 21 and 23 and finished with an 0-5 record after losing to Arlington High of Riverside 13-10 in their tournament finale.
Abdou tallied four saves, while Babayan and Movsesyan each scored three goals. Alexanians chipped in two goals, while Brayden Shabani and Galstyan each produced one goal.
The Falcons fell to Los Osos High of Rancho Cucamonga 7-6 in a tournament game on Sept. 23 as Abdou racked up 15 saves. Alexanians and Babayan each tallied two goals, while Galstyan and Shabani each contributed one goal.
Crescenta Valley narrowly lost a tournament game against Troy High of Fullerton 11-9 on Sept. 22. Abdou produced six saves while Rivera finished with three goals. Alexanians and Shabani each scored two goals, while Babayan and Movsesyan each recorded one goal.

CVHS lost to La Serna High of Whittier 11-5 in its tournament opener on Sept. 21. Abdou tallied 12 saves, Babayan registered three goals, and Alexanians and Movsesyan each had one goal.
The Falcons (9-8, 1-0) will visit Glendale for a league game on Oct. 3 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on Oct. 5.

HOOVER

Hoover High School senior Rocco Boyadjian had one goal during the Tornados’ Pacific League opener against Burbank on Tuesday.


The Tornados lost to visiting Burbank 8-6 in their Pacific League opener on Sept. 26.
Sophomore David Tarkhchyan scored two goals, while senior Rocco Boyadjian, senior Gore Sargsyan, sophomore Arthur Tarkhchyan and freshman Armen Tarakhchyan each had one goal.
The Tornados (8-5, 0-1) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league matchup on Oct. 3 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Muir High of Pasadena on Oct. 5.
