Flash Mob Burglary Hits Americana

The Yves Saint Laurent store in Glendale was the victim of a bold, flash mob burglary. Located at the Americana at Brand, at least 30 suspects flooded the store at approximately 4:50 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspects stole clothing and other merchandise before fleeing on foot and leaving the location in numerous vehicles. While still under investigation, the estimated loss is approximately $300,000.
Glendale patrol officers were on-scene within two minutes of receiving the 911 call to ensure the safety of Americana patrons and attempt to apprehend the suspects. Burglary detectives have initiated a comprehensive investigation, which includes collaboration with Americana’s security and leadership.
“Flash mob” burglaries involve a large, coordinated group of individuals simultaneously rushing into the store, overwhelming staff, and taking it over. The suspects grab as much merchandise as possible before fleeing in multiple vehicles.
“This type of criminal activity will not be tolerated in Glendale. The Glendale Police Department will pursue all leads and utilize every available resource to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice,” said Police Chief Manny Cid.
“Expect an elevated police presence in and around the downtown Glendale corridor. Our commitment to the safety of the residents, businesses and visitors to Glendale is unwavering and our top priority. Our city remains strong and united against lawlessness and criminal activity threatening our safety and well-being,” he added.
“This coordinated crime challenges our values, but our determination to uphold safety and unity is resolute. Together, we’ll ensure that such incidents do not define us,” said Mayor Dan Brotman.
“We call upon the residents of Glendale to join us in our effort to combat crime by remaining vigilant and reporting any information that could aid in our investigation. Working together, we can ensure that Glendale continues to be a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.”
City Councilman Ardy Kassakhian echoed concerns over this incident.
“Our beloved city has always been a place of unity, resilience and perseverance. And it is during times like these that these qualities shine even brighter,” Kassakhian wrote on Nextdoor. “We are committed to doing everything in our power so that justice is served and that such incidents do not tarnish the safety and spirit of our Jewel City.”
Caruso, owner of The Americana at Brand, is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects who committed this crime.
“At Caruso, we stand firm in our commitment to the security of our guests, tenants, residents and employees,” according to a statement from a Caruso representative. “Our company’s top priority is to maintain a safe and family friendly environment across all of our properties, and we will not tolerate any criminal activity.”
The Glendale Police Department asks anyone with information to assist in this case to call (818) 548-4911. To remain anonymous, call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to lacrimestoppers.org.
