Man Sentenced in Glendale Killing

By City News Service

A man was sentenced on Thursday to 57 years to life in state prison for a shooting at a Glendale restaurant in which a 20-year-old man was killed and a 10-year-old boy was struck in the arm by a bullet fragment.
David Rodriguez, now 23, was convicted May 30 of first-degree murder for the May 20, 2020, killing of Teodik Atanes, along with one count of assault with a firearm involving the boy, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The shooting occurred at El Sauz Tacos in the 4400 block of San Fernando Road, the Glendale police said.
Atanes, who was shot in the chest and the back, died that day at a hospital, according to records from the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office. The 10-year-old was released after being treated at a hospital, police reported.
Rodriguez was arrested by Glendale police less than two months later. He has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
Co-defendant Liana Mkrtchyan, 24, was initially charged with murder along with Rodriguez. She subsequently pleaded no contest to an accessory charge and was sentenced to two years formal probation and a suspended three-year state prison term, according to the district attorney’s office.
