La Crescenta Fire Damages Commercial Building, Injures Firefighter

By City News Service

A single-story commercial building in La Crescenta was heavily damaged by a fire on July 12, leaving one firefighter with a minor injury.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said the fire was reported around 3:35 p.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Ramsdell Avenue, where at least 65 firefighters were dispatched. After their arrival, the flames quickly escalated to a second alarm, forcing crews into a defensive mode by pouring water on the blaze from the exterior of the structure.
Crews gained the upper hand on the blaze within about 30 minutes, allowing firefighters to again move inside the structure to fully douse the flames.
Fire crews confirmed at around 4:50 p.m. that the fire had been knocked down.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and the injured firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment, the county fire department said.
