Glendale, CVHS, Hoover Each Collect Victories

The Glendale High School varsity baseball team reentered the win column after picking up a 6-3 nonleague victory at Highland on Monday.
The Nitros lost a pair of nonleague games against Kennedy High in La Palma, 11-1, and La Serna High in Whittier, 6-4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Glendale blanked visiting Marshall High of Los Angeles, 1-0, in a nonleague game last Friday as senior Levi Valadez twirled a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Senior captain Frankie Malagon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk while senior Erik Chavez went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Freshman Jeremy Furhman recorded a hit and a walk while senior Josh Hopkins had a base hit.
The Nitros recently lost an extra inning nonleague game at Claremont, 4-3, as junior Jason Martinez, who had one strikeout in two scoreless innings of relief, went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Furhman went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run while Malagon went 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Junior Brandon Guzman allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts across seven innings while senior Sean Forero struck out one batter in two innings of relief. Senior Neil Dewan recorded a double while sophomore Joe Tapia and Hopkins each had a base hit. Chavez walked and scored once while junior Austin Aldrete finished with three walks.
Glendale previously blanked visiting Burbank in a Pacific League game, 1-0. Furhman pitched a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts, two hits and one walk while Chavez went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and a run.
The Nitros (6-8 overall, 2-2 in league) will visit Lakewood for a nonleague game today at 2 p.m. before opening a two-game set against visiting Arcadia on March 28.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

The Falcons picked up a 10-2 nonleague victory at Mater Dei Catholic in Chula Vista in the matinee matchup of a nonleague doubleheader last Saturday.
Jake Rendo went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs while Chris Torres went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Connor Campbell allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts across five innings to earn the win while Jonah Yi allowed one unearned run on two hits with one strikeout over two innings in relief. Jake Deno recorded a double, two runs and a stolen base, Nico Terenzi tallied a hit, two runs and a walk, and Andrew Klein and Jimmy Spears each finished with a hit and an RBI. Charlie Carafotes produced a hit and a run while Tyler Oliver had a hit. Dashiell Schultz scored two runs with a walk and a stolen base, Ryan Ivanyi walked and scored a run, and Andres Bocanegra and Brandon Kwon each walked once.
CVHS opened its doubleheader with a 1-0 loss at Mater Dei Catholic. Terenzi had a fine outing with seven strikeouts across six innings of one-run ball while allowing four hits and no walks in a hard-luck loss. Ivanyi and Deno each had a base hit while Everett Pam and Kwon each walked once.
The Falcons recently routed visiting Kennedy High of Granada Hills, 13-0, in a nonleague game. Schultz went 3-for-3 with a double, three stolen bases, two RBIs and a walk, Tyler Garland went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, two runs, a stolen base and a walk, and Deno went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Yi allowed one hit and one walk with three strikeouts over three scoreless innings to earn the win while Campbell struck out three batters, allowed two hits and issued a pair of walks in two innings of relief. Terenzi struck out one batter in a perfect inning of relief while Colin Moore struck out two batters with one hit in an inning of relief. Torres registered a hit, two RBIs, two runs, a stolen base and a walk, Spears tallied a hit, three runs and two walks, and Ivanyi produced a hit, two runs and a stolen base. Bocanegra finished with a double and a run, Rendo recorded a hit and an RBI, and Jackson Hemmie and Carafotes each had a hit. Oliver walked once and scored two runs, Nick Borshe had a walk, an RBI and a run, and Kwon walked once.
Crescenta Valley previously blanked visiting Pasadena in a Pacific League game, 1-0, as Pam delivered the game-winning RBI base hit to walk it off for the Falcons in the bottom of the seventh. Terenzi pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts, one hit and no walks while Schultz went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
CVHS (8-4 overall, 4-0 in league) will host Garfield High of Los Angeles for a nonleague game tonight at 6 p.m. before opening a two-game set against visiting Muir High of Pasadena on March 28.

Hoover High School sophomore Gabriel Flores and the Tornados will play at Burbank on Tuesday, March 28, at 3:30 p.m.

HOOVER

The Tornados’ bats woke up in blanking host Morningside High in Inglewood, 25-0 and 17-0, in a nonleague doubleheader last Saturday.
Hoover previously lost a nonleague game against Excelsior Charter High of Victorville, 12-4, as well as a Pacific League game against visiting Arcadia, 19-0. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
The Tornados (4-7 overall, 0-4 in league) will open a two-game set at Burbank on Tuesday, March 28, at 3:30 p.m.
