LAFCU to Award Five Scholarships

First published in the Feb. 4 print issue of the Glendale News-Press.

Los Angeles Federal Credit Union is kicking the new year off by offering five scholarships at $2,000 each.
Eligible applicants must be a LAFCU member who is a high school senior or college student with a minimum 2.5 GPA and can verify they’re attending a college, university or trade school in fall 2023. Scholarship winners are selected based on their academic transcript, extracurricular activities, community service and essay.
This year, LAFCU is accepting submissions through their online application system. Entries can also be sent by email to morozco@LAFCU.org. However, the organization will no longer be accepting submissions via U.S. mail. To apply for a scholarship, visit lafcu.org/loans-credit/student-loans.
Since 2006, LAFCU has awarded more than $108,000 in scholarships to help 92 students and/or teachers. The competition is named after the late Jack C. Mathews, who worked for the city of Los Angeles for 40 years and served 34 years as a volunteer on the LAFCU credit union board.
Anyone who lives in the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area can join LAFCU and take advantage of its financial services. For details, visit LAFCU.org, call (877) MY LAFCU (695-2328) or visit a branch.
