Falcons Win Again; Nitros Snap 4-Game Skid

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team collected its fourth straight victory by dominating host Muir High in Pasadena, 73-50, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Senior Armen Yetenekian racked up 13 points, six rebounds and three assists while sophomores Julius Washington and Vaughn Zargarian each recorded 13 points and four boards. Senior Mikail Grigoryan poured in 12 points with four rebounds and three assists while senior Alex Altounian registered eight points and nine boards. Senior Sebastian Tahmasian tallied two points and three rebounds, senior Eric Badalian, junior Vatche Hairapetian and sophomore Michael Sahagian each scored three points, and juniors Derek Najarian and Lachlan Blunt each had two points.
The Falcons previously routed visiting Glendale in a league game, 83-38. Yetenekian racked up 18 points and four boards while Grigoryan registered 17 points and three assists. Tahmasian scored 11 points while Washington poured in 10 points with four assists, Najarian recorded six points, junior Logan Freemon tallied five points and five rebounds, and senior Vahan Kordian finished with five points. Altounian produced four points and nine boards, Hairapetian scored four points, and Zargarian had three points, three rebounds and four assists.
Second-place CVHS (22-4 overall, 11-2 in league) recently hosted third-place Arcadia in their regular-season finale; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Sunday, Feb. 5, at noon.

Glendale High School senior Denzell Lora recorded 24 points to help the Nitros defeat Burbank in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.

The Nitros snapped a four-game losing streak after beating visiting Burbank, 65-60, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Senior Denzel Lora racked up 24 points while junior Christian Pierre poured in 18 points. Junior Haig Jivalagian and sophomore Joshua Ballard each scored eight points, senior Nico Zadorian sank a 3-pointer, and seniors Tino Zadorian and Dior Pierre each had two points.
Glendale previously lost a league game at Crescenta Valley High, 83-38. Senior Mika Petrosian recorded seven points while Dior Pierre, Christian Pierre and Ballard each scored six points. Nico Zadorian tallied four points, junior David Davtian and Lora each produced three points, senior Alex Aghaian finished with two points, and Tino Zadorian had one point.
The sixth-place Nitros (12-16 overall, 4-9 in league) recently visited Hoover High for their regular-season finale; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Sunday, Feb. 5, at noon.

The Tornados lost at Pasadena, 52-31, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday as Zack Van Patten scored 18 points.
Hagop Demirjian drained a 3-pointer while Justin Herrera, James Akerman, Jenghiz Van Patten, Mo Shareef and Aramais Melkonyan each had two points.
Hoover previously lost a league game at Burbank, 67-61. Shareef posted a double-double with 25 points, 14 rebounds and one assist while Zack Van Patten registered 20 points, seven assists, four boards and two steals. Herrera finished with five points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist, Akerman recorded five points and 12 boards, and Jenghiz Van Patten tallied two points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Demirjian scored three points, Melkonyan had two points, one steal and one board, and Ethan Davis collected two rebounds and one steal.
The eighth-place Tornados (5-19 overall, 0-13 in league) recently hosted sixth-place Glendale for their regular-season finale; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
