Nitros, Falcons Compete in Tournaments

The Glendale High School varsity boys’ basketball team lost at Pilibos High in Los Angeles, 67-58, in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
The Nitros competed in the Azusa tournament last week, finishing the competition with an 85-29 rout over Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Montebello last Saturday. Senior Alex Aghaian amassed 21 points, senior Dior Pierre and junior Christian Pierre each racked up 13 points, and junior Haig Jivalagian poured in 12 points. Senior Nico Zadorian registered nine points while senior Denzell Lora tallied eight points. Junior Mika Petrosian finished with five points, while senior Riley Lacson and junior David Davtian each recorded two points.
Glendale lost an overtime tournament game against Whittier Christian High of La Habra, 91-78, last Saturday, as Christian Pierre amassed 29 points. Dior Pierre racked up 15 points while Nico Zadorian sank three 3-pointers. Jivalagian tallied seven points while senior Tino Zadorian drained a pair of 3-pointers. Lora registered four points, while Petrosian finished with two points.
The Nitros defeated Baldwin Park, 74-55, in a tournament game last Friday. Jivalagian poured in 13 points, Petrosian racked up 11 points and Christian Pierre registered 10 points. Nico Zadorian, Lora and Ballard each scored eight points, Aghaian finished with seven points, and Dior Pierre recorded six points. Tino Zadorian and Lacson each sank a 3-pointer, sophomore Josh Ballard had three points and Aghaian produced two points.
Glendale previously crushed Channel Islands High of Oxnard, 68-46, in a tournament game as Dior Pierre amassed 23 points. Christian Pierre racked up 14 points, while Tino Zadorian scored seven points. Nico Zadorian and Petrosian each posted six points while Lora had two points.
The Nitros opened Pacific League action at Burroughs High in Burbank late yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Glendale (6-5 overall) will host Arcadia in a league game on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

The Falcons defeated Chatsworth, 69-46, in the North East Valley Tournament championship game last Saturday.
Sophomore Vaughn Zargarian, the tournament MVP, racked up 23 points, including five 3-pointers. Senior Mikail Grigoryan registered 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while sophomore Julius Washington poured in 13 points with four boards. Senior Armen Yetenekian finished with eight points and 10 rebounds, while senior Alex Altounian tallied five points and 17 boards.
CVHS (6-2 overall) opened Pacific League action by hosting Burbank late yesterday; the game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Falcons will continue league play by hosting Pasadena on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m.

HOOVER

Hoover High School’s Zack Van Patten amassed 28 points and eight assists in a nonleague game on Monday.

The Tornados lost at Monrovia, 69-54, in a nonleague game on Monday, as Zack Van Patten amassed 28 points, eight assists, five rebounds, one block and one steal. James Akerman poured in 11 points and eight rebounds, Hagop Demirjian registered six points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals, and Justin Herrera tallied five points, four steals, two assists, two rebounds and one block. Jenghiz Van Patten recorded four points, seven rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist, while Aramais Melkonyan had three rebounds.
Hoover previously lost a nonleague game at Blair High in Pasadena, 100-81. Zack Van Patten amassed 25 points, eight assists, two rebounds and one steal, while Akerman racked up 23 points, three steals, three assists and three rebounds. Herrera registered 17 points, four assists, three rebounds and one steal, while Jenghiz Van Patten posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal. Demirjian finished with four points, two rebounds and one assist, while Kyle Arakelian tallied two points and two rebounds. Melkonyan collected one rebound and one assist, while Jason Santiago had one rebound.
