Falcons, Nitros Each Win a Pair of Matches

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ volleyball team hosted Burbank in a nonleague game for its annual Dig Pink event on Wednesday for the first time in person since the COVID-19 pandemic. The programs were able to raise several hundred dollars for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while the Falcons ultimately defeated the Bulldogs, 25-17, 25-8, 25-17.
Senior Jana Coffeen collected five aces and four kills, seniors Rory Reedy-Solano and Nyra Tatoulian each tallied eight kills, sophomore Sofia Shin finished with 16 digs.
The varsity squad made school history last Thursday by defeating visiting Arcadia in a thrilling 24-26, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 16-14 Pacific League victory. It was the first time in recorded school history that Crescenta Valley completed a season sweep over Arcadia. Reedy-Solano led with 15 kills, while Tatoulian registered 14 kills. Senior Hyacinth Ang amassed 42 assists and Shin posted 28 digs.
CVHS (25-9 overall, 7-0 in league) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3:45 p.m.


Glendale High School junior Arianna Vargas registered six aces to help the Nitros sweep a nonleague matchup at Hawkins High in Los Angeles.

The Nitros collected their fourth consecutive sweep on Monday after defeating host Hawkins High in Los Angeles in a nonleague matchup, 25-14, 25-10, 25-9. Sophomore Aleina Manaois collected 15 kills and four aces, junior Arianna Vargas finished with six aces, and sophomore Emmi Whiting tallied 16 assists.
Glendale previously swept host Hoover High in a Pacific League contest, 25-9, 25-11, 25-11. Manaois amassed 14 kills and nine aces, Whiting racked up 20 assists, and sophomore Breanna Cuellar registered three aces.
The Nitros (17-8 overall, 5-2 in league) will continue league play at Arcadia on Monday, Oct. 10, at 3:30 p.m.
