Nitros Fall to Azusa, 41-7

The Glendale High School varsity football team lost a nonleague game to visiting Azusa, 41-7, last Friday.
Mateo Gutierrez rushed for a team-high 76 yards on seven carries to lead the Nitros’ ground attack. Teammate Isaac Quiroz carried seven times for 15 yards while Jonathan Anaya rushed for 5 yards on a pair of carries.
Defensively, Alexis Bonilla tallied nine tackles and Justin Melville had eight tackles.
Glendale (0-5 overall) hosted South El Monte in a nonleague game on Friday; the game ended past the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Nitros will visit Rio Hondo Prep High in Arcadia for a nonleague matchup on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
