The Hoover High School varsity baseball team lost the first of a two-game set to visiting Burroughs High of Burbank, 12-1, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Senior Tristan Ulloa collected a base hit and an RBI for the Tornados, junior teammate Brandon Piehr doubled and senior Alejandro Concepcion tallied a single. Junior Jose Mendez scored after reaching on a walk, senior Joaquin Rodriguez finished with a walk and a stolen base, and sophomore Julian Corral walked once.
Meanwhile, senior pitcher Natasha Cohen worked around a hit-by-pitch and retired the final three Burroughs batters in the fifth inning.
The Tornados (3-13-1 overall record, 1-10 in league) will travel to Glendale for a league game on Tuesday, April 26, at 3:30 p.m.
MUIR 12, HOOVER 1
The Tornados lost a league game to visiting Muir High of Pasadena last Tuesday. Junior Fernando Gallegos pitched a pair of scoreless innings, allowing four hits with one strikeout.
Meanwhile, Mendez registered a base hit, an RBI and a stolen base, while Concepcion doubled and scored a run. Senior Tony Torrez produced a base hit and a stolen base, senior Ethan Tobey and junior Matthew Romero each had a base hit, and Corral stole a base.
