Man in Custody After 3 Arrests in One Day

First published in the Feb. 19 print issue of the Glendale News Press.

A 47-year-old Los Angeles man remained in custody Friday after being arrested thrice Sunday by Glendale police, with the latest booking netting a bail amount he has not yet paid.
The man was being held in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles on $150,000 bond as of the News-Press’ deadline, after being booked at 9:41 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13. He is slated to be arraigned on felony burglary charges at his next court appearance on March 1.
The Glendale Police Department reported arresting this man three times within about 16 hours on Sunday, beginning at around 3 a.m. when patrol officers said they found him pacing in a parking lot at the intersection of Colorado Street and Louise Street. Those officers said the man then ran from the parking lot and crossed the street against a “Don’t Walk” signal, and pursued him as he continued running away.
After a “brief struggle,” GPD said the man was apprehended and cited out for the violation after he said he needed medical attention. He was taken to a hospital and released.
Police again arrested the same man at around 9:30 a.m., after he was reported for trespassing at a business in the 1400 block of East Chevy Chase Drive. An employee at the business said the man was attempting to use a screwdriver to get past a locked door to a restricted part of the store.
GPD said the man was released this time because of the zero-dollar bail order by the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office for some crimes.
Officers arrested the man yet again that evening, after he allegedly burglarized and ransacked an apartment in the 600 block of Balboa Avenue just before 7 p.m. The residents told police they arrived home to find the door ajar and heard a man yelling from inside. As officers arrived, the man reportedly stepped outside and then ran back into the apartment and barricaded himself in, GPD said.
Additional officers arrived and set up a perimeter with K9 units, while others entered the apartment and coaxed him to surrender. He was arrested without additional incident and booked for burglary and felony vandalism.
The man is believed to have caused around $6,000 in damage to the apartment and its building, GPD added.
