Track and Field: Sion Shines as Falcons Finish Third at League Finals

The Crescenta Valley, Hoover and Glendale high school varsity track and field teams recently competed in the Pacific League finals at Arcadia High School on April 25.
The Falcons’ boys’ team finished third with 121 team points, while the girls’ squad also claimed third with 96.33 points. The Tornados’ girls’ team placed fifth with 44 points, while the boys’ squad was sixth with 16 points. The Nitros boys’ team finished seventh with 14 points, while the girls’ squad also took seventh with seven points.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
For the CVHS boys’ team, Liam Zadoorian won the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 56.70 seconds. Sebastian Leufroy finished third with 1:58.96, Caleb Burton was fourth with 1:59.79 and Nathan Lee placed 10th with 2:08.16.
Eddie Sion led the 1,600, securing first with a time of 4:18.48. Joshua Chambers followed closely behind in second with 4:22.62, while Arlo Gagnon took third with 4:23.30. Other notable finishers included Dominic Esquival (4:31.82) in seventh, Ayaan Hasan (4:34.24) in eighth, Ryan Becker (4:35.31) in ninth and Lyons Mathias (4:40.35) in 11th.
In the 3,200, Sion won with a time of 9:22.02. Zadoorian secured third with 9:39.26, followed by Gagnon in fourth with 9:40.56. Hasan (9:47.35), Chambers (9:51.34) and Becker (9:57.70) also finished within the top 10.
The 4×400 relay team of Zachariah Loppnow, Leufroy, Zadoorian and Gagnon finished fourth with a time of 3:31.63. Similarly, the 4×100 relay team of Andranik Sarayan, Xavier Thompson, Nolan Hua and Chander Thome placed sixth with a time of 46.93. In the 400, Loppnow finished seventh with a time of 51.91.
In the boys’ field events, Lachlan Blunt won the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 10 inches, while Griffin Trice secured third with 5-6.
In the long jump event, Thompson finished second with a distance of 20-1 1/2. Christian Carr followed closely behind in fifth with 19-6, while Lachlan Blunt finished seventh with 18-11 1/2. Sarayan placed 23rd with 15-9 1/2, while Thome took 26th with 15-4.
Torin Blunt earned fourth in the shot put with a distance of 44-11 1/2, while Diego Velasco Pena finished 22nd with 25-07. In the triple jump, Lachlan Blunt was eighth with a distance of 36-9. Stephen Kolev finished 13th in the discus event with a throw of 91-7, followed by Aayan Rahman (78-4) in 16th and Niko Tomic (66-2) in 22nd.
For the CVHS girls’ team, Kaitlin Kenney won the 800 with a time of 2:20.49. Elizabeth Corrigan finished third with 2:24.02, while Naiya Rothermund secured fifth at 2:32.69.
The 4×400 relay team of Samantha Talbot, Emilia Greenway, Kenney and Corrigan took second with a time of 4:18.12.
In the 1,600, Kenney placed second at 4:49.49, closely followed by Corrigan in third at 5:08.71. Greenway was fourth at 5:10.06, while Brooklyn Oka finished eighth at 5:43.88. Rothermund placed ninth with 5:43.97, Anthea Perez was 10th with 5:44.13 and Addison Medina placed 11th with 6:00.60.
Greenway secured third in the 3,200 with a time of 11:44.02. Oka followed in fifth at 12:28.16, Perez was seventh at 13:08.99 and Medina finished ninth at 13:21.41. Courtney Smith placed 12th at 13:34.21, while Idaly Garcia was 15th at 13:50.61.
Estella Aydin placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.79. Cameron Ouye finished fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.82, while Aydin took sixth at 19.09. Talbot claimed fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:04.30, while Maia Metz-Tolliver secured eighth with 1:09.64.
In the girls’ field events, Keira Calaguas finished second in the high jump with 4-07. In the pole vault event, Payton Simmons also placed second with a height of 10-6.
For the long jump, Calaguas finished sixth with a distance of 14-10. In the discus throw, Alexa Juannillas ranked 13th with a distance of 67-2, Zoe Roberts was 14th with 64-7 and Valerie Smith finished 16th with 62-5.

HOOVER
For the Hoover girls’ team, the 4×100 relay team of Daniela Guzman, Citlali Diaz de Leon, Ainsley Najafzadeh and Celeste Veillard finished second with a time of 51.99. The 4×400 relay team of Emma Canal, Ani Weimar, Breann Pimenta and Sophia White finished fifth with a time of 4:35.94.
In the 400, Katherine Coppersmith placed second with a time of 1:02.62 while also claiming fourth in the 200 with a time of 26.75.
In the 3,200, Canal took fourth with a time of 12:16.94, followed by Nellie Daniel in 18th with a time of 16:59.03. In the 1,600, Canal finished sixth with a time of 5:18.40, while Weimar secured 12th with a time of 6:03.53.
For the 100, Kirsten Cannon placed sixth with a time of 13.23, while Pimenta finished seventh with a time of 13.27. In the 800, Weimar secured 12th with a time of 2:53.65.
In the field events, Cannon secured fourth in the shot put with a distance of 30-1 1/2. In the long jump, Coppersmith finished ninth with a distance of 14-5 1/2, while Pimenta took 15th place with a distance of 12-2.
For the boys’ team, the 4×100 relay team of Javon Lymon, Nathan Baneham, Joel Jauregui and Sebastian Izaguirre placed fifth with a time of 46.80. In the 4×400 relay event, Aidan Herbulot-Thomas, Charles Martinito, Izaguirre and Lymon took sixth with a 3:49.46 time. Nathan Safarian finished 33rd in the 3,200 with a time of 11:28.08.
In the field events, Lymon captured third in the triple jump with a distance of 38-11, while Linus Hartigan placed 17th with 30-4.
Anderson Thombs placed sixth in the shot put event with a throw of 40-1 1/2, while also finishing 10th in the discus event with a distance of 101-8. In the long jump, Lymon placed 11th with a distance of 18-2. Martinito placed 22nd with 15-10, while Alborz Pharokhipanah finished 13th with 13-05.

GLENDALE
For the Glendale boys’ team, Kyle Robertson finished third in the 100 with a time of 11.24, while Brandon Chase placed 10th with 11.85.
The 4×100 relay team of John Peligrino, Artin Markarian, Chase and Robertson placed fourth with a time of 45.97. In the 3,200, Finn Dever placed 37th with a time of 11:57.00.
In the field events, Harout Koshkerian claimed sixth place in the discus event with a throw of 111-5. Paulo Valdellon was 11th with 96-7, while Mark Dacles finished 14th with 81-11. Lorenzo Garcia placed 18th with 74-11, while Jose Vincente was 20th with 70-9.
Koshkerian also secured 12th in the shot put with a distance of 33-10 1/2, while Dacles finished 17th with 28-11. Vincente was 18th with 28-2, Valdellon placed 20th with 27-9 1/2 and Garcia finished 21st with 25-7.
Nathan Navarro ranked 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 33-3 1/2, while Damian Torres placed 16th with 32-0. In the long jump, Chase finished 15th with a distance of 17-7, followed by Torres in 25th with 15-5. Raphael Augustin was 28th with 15-00, while Navarro placed 29th with 14-10 1/2.
For the girls’ team, Breanna Cuellar finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 87-06, followed by Loveneet Kaur in 11th with 73-04. Emma Grado was 15th with 64-00, while Christina Mafyan placed 18th with 46-09.
In the shot put, Cuellar claimed eighth with a distance of 26-2 1/2, while Kaur secured ninth with 26-1 1/4. Mafyan placed 11th with 25-1 1/4, while Grado finished 13th with 19-10 1/2.
Angelica Gamboa ranked ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 27-7, while Aniella Pieprzyca was 12th with 26-7. Layla Whitley finished 10th in the long jump with a distance of 13-10. In the track events, Whitley finished eighth in the 100 hurdles with a 19.41 time.
