Boys’ Tennis: Crescenta Valley Holds Off Burroughs

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ tennis team lost at Burbank in games, 9-9 (77-74), in a Pacific League match on April 16.
No. 1 singles Jaidyn Finley swept with scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4 to account for all of CV’s wins in singles play. The No. 2 doubles team of Daniel Lee and Hochan Lee also swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 7-5. The No. 1 tandem of Dylan Kim and Easan Hamkins won a pair of sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-3, while the No. 3 duo of Kevin Cho and Matthew Park added a 6-4 victory.
The Falcons picked up an 11-7 league victory at Burroughs High in Burbank on April 11.
The No. 3 doubles team of Daniel Lee and Hochan Lee swept with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-4. The No. 2 tandem of Dylan Kim and Hamkins won a pair of sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-3, while the No. 1 duo of Ethan Kim and Joshua Kook also won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
In singles play, No. 1 Finley swept with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-3, while No. 3 Aiden Kim added a 7-6 (7-5) victory.
Crescenta Valley (11-6 overall, 8-3 in league) concluded the regular season at Arcadia on April 18; the league match ended after the News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Falcons will send individuals to compete in the Pacific League Tournament on April 22 and 23.


HOOVER
The Tornados secured a narrow 10-8 Pacific League victory over visiting Pasadena on April 16.
No. 1 singles Alec Avedisian swept with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, No. 3 Sargis Vardanyan added a pair of identical 6-1 victories, while No. 2 Daniel Shakaryan won a set with a 6-4 score.
The No. 1 doubles team of Vincent Abechian and Alec Sarkissian won a pair of sets with identical 6-3 scores. Meanwhile, the No. 2 tandem of Ben Kim and Chris Kim (6-2) and the No. 3 duo of Daron Momjian and Justin Weitzman (6-2) each won a set.
Hoover (3-8 in league) hosted Glendale for its regular-season finale on April 18; the league match ended after the News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Tornados will send individuals to compete in the Pacific League Tournament on April 22 and 23.

GLENDALE
The Nitros were swept in consecutive Pacific League matchups by Arcadia and Burbank on April 16 and 11, respectively.
Glendale (0-12, 0-11) concluded the regular season at Hoover High on April 18; the league match ended after the News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Nitros will send individuals to compete in the Pacific League Tournament on April 22 and 23.
