Baseball: Crescenta Valley Pitching Shines in League Wins

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team blanked host Burbank with a 7-0 Pacific League victory on April 16. Junior Colin Moore pitched a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts, four hits and no walks.
Senior Jake Rendo registered a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk, senior Brandon Kwon finished with a hit, two runs, two stolen bases and a walk, and sophomore Dante Cerecedes recorded a hit, two RBIs and a walk. Senior Jacob Deno tallied two runs, an RBI and a walk, junior Chris Torres was credited with an RBI and a walk, and junior Dashiell Schultz and freshman Cole Richards each walked once and scored a run.
The Falcons overwhelmed visiting Muir High of Pasadena with a 10-0 league victory on April 12. Junior Sam Sellars pitched a six-inning complete game shutout with eight strikeouts, three walks and one hit.
Deno went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base, Cerecedes went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base, and Rendo recorded a double and an RBI. Richards tallied a hit, two runs, an RBI and a walk, sophomore Brock Robeson finished with a hit and an RBI, sophomore Travis Phillips produced a hit and a run, and senior Dominic Costa registered a base hit. Kwon was credited with two walks, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run, while freshman Gunner Herman walked once, scored a run and stole a base. Freshman Mike Herman scored twice and stole a base, Schultz scored a run, and junior Jimmy Spears walked once.
Crescenta Valley (18-5 overall, 10-1 in league) will host Arcadia for a league game on April 23 at 7 p.m. before visiting the Apaches for its regular-season finale on April 26. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 10 a.m.

GLENDALE

Glendale High junior Ace Baker pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts during a Pacific League game against Muir High on April 16.

The Nitros lost to visiting Muir High of Pasadena 3-1 in a Pacific League game on April 16.
Junior Ace Baker pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts, while senior Jason Martinez, who had a base hit at the plate, pitched three innings with one strikeout.
Senior Sheantell Cruz finished with a hit, two stolen bases and a run, senior Aaron Aguayo walked twice, senior Austin Aldrete walked once, and senior Alex Idolor stole a base.
Glendale lost to visiting Arcadia, 9-1, in a league game on April 12.
Aldrete pitched three innings with one strikeout, while Martinez pitched four innings with two strikeouts.
Junior Joseph Tapia recorded a hit and a run, Idolor tallied a hit and an RBI, and junior Derek Chalian registered a base hit. Senior Jacob Hyde walked once and stole a base, while Aguayo walked once.
The Nitros (7-16, 2-9) will visit Cathedral High in Los Angeles for a league game on April 22 at 3 p.m. before hosting Hoover High on April 23.

HOOVER

Hoover High senior Julian Corral recorded a base hit during a Pacific League game against Pasadena on Tuesday.

The Tornados lost to visiting Pasadena 4-2 in a Pacific League game on April 17.
Senior Julian Corral pitched six innings with 11 strikeouts, while sophomore Owen Marks pitched one scoreless inning with a strikeout. Freshman Kieran Sinta went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while senior Isaiah Alvarado recorded a triple, two runs and a stolen base. Sophomore Daniel Cano finished with a double and an RBI, while junior Gabriel Flores and freshman Alex Weimar each tallied a base hit.
Hoover lost at Pasadena 2-0 in a league game on April 16.
Sophomore Jordan Mahler, who had a base hit at the plate, pitched three innings with two strikeouts and no walks, while freshman Jesse Carbonneau pitched three innings with one strikeout. Corral tallied a base hit, while Flores walked once.

Junior Jude Maldonado pitched one inning, Marks pitched two-thirds of an inning and senior Isaiah Alvarado pitched one-third of an inning with a strikeout. Cano and Weimar each recorded a hit, while senior Josh Keim and Corral each walked once.
Hoover (3-18-1, 0-12) will visit Glendale for a league game on April 23 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Vasquez High in Acton on April 25.
