Boys’ Volleyball: Glendale Sweeps Rival Hoover, CV Tops Arcadia

The Glendale High School varsity boys’ volleyball team was swept by visiting Burroughs High of Burbank, 17-25, 21-25, 19-25, in a Pacific League match on March 27.
Tad Whiting finished with nine blocks and eight kills, while Ibrahim Alnaqib recorded seven kills, four digs and one block. Koko Haboian was credited with 12 assists and eight digs, Caleb Shimasaki registered eight assists and three digs, and Quan Tran collected nine digs. Nick Ramirez chipped in three kills and two digs, Thomas Gonzales produced three blocks and two kills, and Cory Graham had four blocks and one kill.
The Nitros swept host Hoover High, 25-8, 25-17, 25-10, in a nonleague match on March 25.
Shimasaki finished with 15 assists, three aces and one block, Haboian was credited with 12 assists and three aces, and Whiting contributed 10 kills, eight aces and one block. Benjamin Salmeron registered seven kills and three blocks, while Ramirez tallied six kills, one block and one ace. Alnaqib produced four kills and two aces, while Raul Martinez chipped in two kills. Gonzales made three blocks, while Isaiah Mascardo recorded two digs.
Glendale (8-4 overall, 1-2 in league) will host Muir High of Pasadena for a nonleague match on April 1 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Hoover on April 2.

HOOVER
The Tornados were swept by visiting Compton Early College, 19-25, 23-25, 22-25, in a nonleague match on March 27.
Egor Kondrashov finished with 12 assists and two aces, while Ryan Cantos contributed 10 assists. Peter Villa recorded eight kills and four aces, Nathan Baneham produced four kills and two aces, and Dylan Serrato tallied three kills and two blocks.
Hoover was swept by visiting Glendale, 8-25, 17-25, 10-25, in a nonleague match on March 25.
Armen Tormasyan had three kills and one ace, Baneham chipped in three kills, and Kyle Bacalso registered two kills and one ace.
The Tornados (0-4 overall) will visit Glendale for a nonleague match on April 2 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Muir High in Pasadena on April 9.

Hoover High School’s Ryan Cantos had 10 assists during a nonleague match against Compton Early College on March 27.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
The Falcons secured a four-game victory over visiting Arcadia, 18-25, 25-17, 29-27, 25-22, in a Pacific League match on March 27.
Joshua Sohn amassed 56 assists, four digs and one block, while Logan Freemon racked up 40 kills, nine digs, three blocks and one ace. Colin Walley finished with 12 kills, two blocks, two assists and one dig, Sena Hunter contributed eight kills, two digs, one block and one assist, and Aubrey Peterson had three kills and one dig. Benjamin Hart produced 10 digs, five kills, two aces, two assists and one block, Matt Hong recorded 14 digs, two assists and one ace, and Tyler Hong tallied 10 digs and one ace.
Crescenta Valley lost in straight sets at St. Francis High in La Cañada, 16-25, 21-25, 23-25, in a nonleague match on March 22.
Sohn racked up 26 assists, three digs and two blocks, Freemon registered 18 kills and eight digs, and Walley finished with seven kills two digs and one block. Hart recorded four digs, two kills, two assists and one ace, while Peterson tallied one kill, one block, one assist and one dig. Matt Hong produced four digs and one ace, Mason Park chipped in two kills, and Tyler Hong and Jayden Pang each had one dig.
Crescenta Valley (17-6, 3-1) will host Taft High of Woodland Hills for a nonleague match on April 4 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on April 5.
