Baseball: Glendale Outlasts Burbank in Extras

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team saw its season-best seven-game win streak end after being shut out by visiting Torrance 8-0 in a nonleague contest on March 19.
Mike Herman tallied a base hit, Jacob Mucic walked once and Dashiell Schultz stole a base. Gunner Herman pitched 2 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and no walks, Sam Sellars pitched 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and Colin Moore pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
The Falcons overwhelmed visiting Providence High of Burbank with a 15-1 nonleague victory on March 18.
Mucic, who had a hit, two runs and a walk, pitched four innings with five strikeouts. Nick Miccozi pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no hits, while James Virgallito pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Gunner Herman went 2-for-2 with a double, three walks, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base, Jacob Deno finished with a double, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base, and Schultz produced a double, two runs and a walk. Brandon Kwon registered a hit, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base, Luca Terenzi contributed a hit and two RBIs, and Dante Cerecedes recorded a hit and a run. Brock Robeson tallied two walks, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, Chris Torres walked twice, scored a run and stole a base, and Cole Richards, Jimmy Spears and Chris Chien each walked once and scored a run. Travis Phillips was credited with an RBI and a run, while Mike Herman had an RBI and a walk. Jake Rendo walked once, while Dominic Costa scored a run.
Crescenta Valley secured a 5-2 victory over visiting Canyon High of Santa Clarita in a nonleague game on March 16.
Junior Aiden Rose pitched six innings with seven strikeouts, while Mucic pitched a scoreless inning of relief with no hits. Spears went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, while Richards went 2-for-2 with three runs, a walk and a stolen base. Schultz recorded a hit, a run and a stolen base, while Kwon scored a run.
The Falcons defeated host Pasadena 6-1 in a Pacific League game on March 15.
Moore pitched six innings with nine strikeouts, while Sellars struck out the side in a perfect inning of relief.
Torres went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base, while Deno contributed a double, a walk and a stolen base. Kwon recorded a hit, two RBIs and a walk, Mucic produced a hit, two runs and a walk, and Cerecedes tallied a base hit. Spears scored twice, walked once and stole a base, while Mike Herman walked once, scored a run and stole a base. Schultz walked once and stole a base, while Rendo walked once.
Crescenta Valley (9-5 overall, 5-1 in league) will host Hoover High for a league game on March 26 at 6 p.m. before visiting the Tornados on March 29.


HOOVER

Hoover High School sophomore Jordan Mahler pitched two innings with three strikeouts during a nonleague game against Eagle Rock High on Monday.

The Tornados lost at Yeshiva University in Los Angeles 6-1 in a nonleague game on March 20.
Senior Julian Corral, who had a double, a run and a stolen base at the plate, pitched five innings with three strikeouts, while junior Jude Maldonado pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore Daniel Cano recorded a hit, an RBI and a stolen base, while senior Bryan Olmedo tallied a double. Senior Josh Keim walked once, while senior Daniel Baneham stole a base.
Hoover suffered a narrow 9-8 nonleague loss against visiting Eagle Rock High of Los Angeles on March 18.
Sophomore Jordan Mahler pitched two innings with three strikeouts, while Corral, who walked twice and scored a run, pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, no hits and no walks. Olmedo went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk, while junior Gabriel Flores went 2-for-4 with a double. Cano contributed a hit, three runs and an RBI, Baneham tallied a hit, an RBI and a stolen base, and Maldonado finished with a hit, a run and a walk. Senior Steve Park walked once and scored a run, while freshman Jack Coppersmith walked once.
The Tornados lost at Arcadia 10-0 in a Pacific League game on March 15.
Senior Josh Keim was the lone base runner after reaching on a walk, while Corral pitched four innings with five strikeouts and no walks.
Hoover (3-10-1, 0-6) will visit Crescenta Valley High for a league game on March 26 at 6 p.m. before hosting the Falcons on March 29.

GLENDALE
The Nitros secured a 6-3 extra-inning nonleague victory at Eagle Rock High in Los Angeles on March 20.
Senior Jason Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a stolen base at the plate, pitched four innings with three strikeouts. Senior Austin Aldrete, who had a hit, two RBIs, a run, a walk and a stolen base at the plate, pitched four innings with seven strikeouts. Junior Joseph Tapia finished with a double, two runs, two walks and a stolen base, while senior Aaron Aguayo recorded a hit and an RBI. Senior Mateo Mireles, junior Dante Vasquez and junior Ace Baker each tallied a hit, while senior Sheantell Cruz had three walks, three runs and two stolen bases.
Glendale defeated host Marshall Fundamental in Pasadena 6-4 in a nonleague game on March 16.
Baker, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk at the plate, pitched four innings with three strikeouts, while Aldrete pitched three scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Senior Alex Idolor went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base, while Cruz went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Senior Xander Knur tallied a hit, an RBI and a stolen base, while Tapia produced a hit, an RBI and a walk. Martinez finished with four walks, three stolen bases and two runs, Vasquez walked once and scored a run, and junior Derek Chalian and Aguayo each scored a run.

Glendale (6-10, 2-4) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league game on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting the Bears on March 29.
