Baseball: Crescenta Valley Tops Glendale in Showdown

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team secured a 4-1 victory at Glendale in a Pacific League game on March 5. Junior Aiden Rose pitched a complete game to earn the win, striking out six batters while allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk.
Senior Brandon Kwon went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two stolen bases, an RBI, a run and a walk, while freshman Cole Richards registered a double and a run. Juniors Dashiell Schultz and Chris Torres each produced a hit and an RBI, while junior Jimmy Spears finished with a hit and a stolen base. Sophomore Dante Cerecedes walked once and scored a run, while sophomore Brock Robeson scored a run and stole a base. Freshman Mike Herman walked once and stole a base, while senior Jake Rendo walked once.
The Falcons (3-4 overall, 1-1 in league) will host Pasadena for a league game on March 12 at 6 p.m. before visiting the Bulldogs on March 15.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost to visiting Crescenta Valley High 4-1 in a Pacific League game on March 5.
Senior Jason Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base at the plate, pitched six innings with one strikeout. Junior Austin Gonzalez pitched one scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout, one walk and no hits. Senior Liam Roney and junior Dante Vasquez each tallied a base hit, junior Joseph Tapia scored a run, and senior Alex Idolor stole a base.
Glendale suffered a 5-2 loss against visiting Pasadena in a Pacific League game on March 1.
Senior Sheantell Cruz went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run, senior Jacob Hyde recorded a base hit and a pair of stolen bases, and Idolor tallied a base hit. Vasquez scored a run and stole a base, while senior Aaron Aguayo walked once. Senior Austin Aldrete pitched five innings with five strikeouts, while junior Ace Baker pitched two innings with two strikeouts.
The Nitros were edged at Lakewood 3-2 in a nonleague game on Feb. 29.
Tapia went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a walk, while Idolor went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Senior Xander Knur had a hit, a run and a stolen base, while Martinez, Roney and Aguayo each walked once. Junior Garo Manuelian pitched four innings with one strikeout, one earned run, five walks and no hit, while junior Derek Chalian pitched two innings with one strikeout.
Glendale (3-8, 1-2) will host Burbank for a league game on March 12 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting the Bulldogs on March 15.

HOOVER
The Tornados were no-hit by visiting Burroughs High of Burbank in a 17-0 Pacific League loss on March 5. Sophomore Julian Guzman was the only Hoover batter to reach base when he walked in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Hoover lost to visiting Muir High of Pasadena 8-1 in a nonleague game on March 1.
Senior Julian Corral, who had a base hit at the plate, pitched five innings with four strikeouts, while junior Jude Maldonado and freshman Jack Coppersmith each pitched an inning of relief.
Junior Enzo Mitchell, sophomore Jordan Mahler and freshman Alex Weimar each recorded a base hit. Senior Daniel Baneham tallied an RBI, senior Bryan Olmedo scored a run and junior Gabriel Flores walked once.
The Tornados (2-5-1, 0-3) will host Arcadia for a league game on March 12 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting the Apaches on March 15.
