Baseball: Crescenta Valley Downs Northview Ahead of League Start

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity baseball team picked up a 10-1 victory over visiting Northview High of Covina in a South Hills Tournament game on Feb. 17 as junior Dashiell Schultz 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and a run.
Junior Colin Moore earned the win after allowing one earned run on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Junior Jimmy Spears pitched a scoreless inning of relief with two walks and one hit.
Freshman Cole Richards went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, while sophomore Brock Robeson registered a double, two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Senior Brandon Kwon contributed a hit, two RBIs and a stolen base, junior Chris Torres produced a hit, two runs and an RBI, and freshman Mike Herman recorded a hit, three walks and two runs. Sophomore Dante Cerecedes tallied a base hit, senior Jake Rendo walked twice and scored a run, and junior Jacob Mucic walked once, scored a run and stole a base.
The Falcons (2-1 overall) will open Pacific League action at Burroughs High in Burbank on Feb. 27 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting the Bears on March 1 at 7 p.m.

GLENDALE
The Nitros lost at Alhambra 5-4 in an extra-inning Dave Moore Tournament game on Feb. 17.
Junior Joseph Tapia went 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, an RBI, a run and a walk, while senior Xander Knur went 2-for-4 with a double. Senior Alex Idolor finished with a hit, an RBI, a run and a stolen base, senior Sheantell Cruz registered a hit, a run and a stolen base, and senior Mateo Mireles contributed a hit and an RBI. Junior Derek Chalian walked once, scored a run and stole a base, while senior Liam Roney tallied an RBI.
Junior Ace Baker allowed three earned runs on five walks and four hits with four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Senior Jason Martinez, who had a double at the plate, struck out a pair of batters and gave up one run on six hits and no walks in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Glendale was no-hit by Monrovia in a 4-0 tournament loss on Feb. 16. Cruz was the only Nitro base runner after reaching on a hit-by-pitch. Martinez pitched two perfect innings, while Chalian had three strikeouts in four innings on the mound.
The Nitros (0-4) will open Pacific League play at Pasadena on Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. before visiting Lakewood on Feb. 29.

HOOVER
The Tornados suffered a 10-0 loss at Gabrielino High in San Gabriel in a nonleague game on Feb. 16.
Senior Daniel Baneham tallied a base hit, senior Isaiah Alvarado walked once and stole a pair of bases, and junior Gabriel Flores finished with a stole base. Senior Julian Corral had three strikeouts over four innings on the mound, while freshman Jesse Carbonneau had a strikeout in one inning of relief.
Hoover (1-2) will host Northridge Academy for a nonleague game on Feb. 26 at 3:15 p.m. before opening Pacific League action at Muir High in Pasadena on Feb. 27.
