Falcons Softball Duo Hit Home Runs in Season-opening Win

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity softball team was shut out by visiting California High of Whittier 8-0 in a Bonita Tournament game on Feb. 13.
Freshman Chloe Mulcahey had three strikeouts across four innings in the circle, while junior Mila Reddy recorded a base hit.
The Falcons secured a narrow 6-5 season-opening victory over visiting San Dimas in a tournament game on Feb. 10.
Senior Perri Derian, who slugged a two-run home run at the plate, allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts over four innings in the circle. Mulcahey pitched three innings with four strikeouts, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks. Reddy blasted a two-run home run, senior Anais Ochoa went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and junior Jasmine Hernandez tallied a double and a run. Junior Alexa Johnson finished with a hit, an RBI and a run, while senior Haley Krohn and junior Megumi Ono each had a hit. Meanwhile, senior Jaiden Sabelis was credited with an RBI.
Crescenta Valley (1-1 overall) will visit Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Cañada Flintridge for a nonleague game on Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m. before hosting South Pasadena on Feb. 23.

GLENDALE
The Nitros picked up a 13-3 season-opening victory over visiting San Gabriel on Feb. 13. Junior Natalie Minkler pitched a five-inning complete game with eight strikeouts while allowing three unearned runs on six hits and two walks. She also contributed at the plate with a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk.
Senior Jazmin Combs went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples, four RBIs, two runs and two steals, while junior Jade Marquez went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs. Senior Chloe Dobie recorded a hit, three steals and two runs, while sophomore Sky Smoot tallied an RBI and a run. Freshman Jordan Alvarez scored twice, while senior Faith Alvarez finished with a run and walk. Freshman Brooke Aldrete scored once, while sophomore Rachel Francis was credited with an RBI.
The Nitros will host Lynwood for a nonleague game on Feb. 20 at 3:15 p.m. before hosting Castaic on Feb. 22.

HOOVER
The Tornados visited Marshall Fundamental in Pasadena for their season opener on Feb. 15; the nonleague game ended after the Glendale News-Press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
Hoover will host St. Mary’s Academy of Inglewood for a nonleague game on Feb. 20 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy of Downey on Feb. 22.
