Glendale Girls’ Water Polo Falls to Arcadia in Pacific League Title Match

The Glendale High School varsity girls’ water polo team reached the championship match of the Pacific League Tournament and faced No. 1-seeded Arcadia in the finale on Thursday, Feb. 1, at Arcadia High.
The Nitros, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, fell short of being crowned league champions, losing 9-8 to the hosts in the title matchup. More details of the championship game will be included in next week’s issue of the Glendale News Press.
Glendale sets its sights on the CIF Southern Section playoffs now. Brackets will be released on Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. and will compete in Division IV.
Glendale previously defeated Muir High of Pasadena 8-3 in the preliminary round of the Pacific League Tournament on Jan. 30 as junior Armine Zelveyan racked up four goals.
Junior Brina Brati chipped in two goals, while juniors Leora Freeman and Leah Gaddes each scored one goal.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
The Falcons defeated Pasadena 8-4 in the preliminary round of the Pacific League Tournament on Jan. 30.
Miranda Graham finished with eight saves, while Ani Thomassian recorded four goals.
Crescenta Valley lost to Burroughs High of Burbank 11-9 in the first round of the league tournament on Jan. 25.
Graham registered 13 saves, Gianna Double scored three goals and Avalon Burzynski chipped in two goals.
The Falcons defeated Burbank 10-3 in their league tournament opener on Jan. 25.
Graham tallied 13 saves, while Thomassian racked up five goals.
Crescenta Valley, the No. 5 seed with a 12-12 overall record, battled Burbank in the fifth-place game of the league tournament on Feb. 1; details from the match will be included in next week’s Glendale News-Press issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. The Falcons will also compete in the Division IV bracket.

HOOVER
The Tornados lost to Burbank in overtime 4-3 in the preliminary round of the Pacific League Tournament on Jan. 30. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Hoover, the No. 7 seed with a 2-9 overall record, battled Pasadena in the seventh-place game of the league tournament on Feb. 1; details from the match will be included in next week’s Glendale News-Press issue.
