Nitros Top Rival in League Matchup

The Glendale High School varsity girls’ water polo team defeated visiting Hoover High 14-6 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 23
Junior Emily Gevorgyan recorded five saves, while junior Armine Zelveyan finished with four goals. Juniors Jasper Starr and Brina Brati each chipped in two goals, while senior Talin Tatos, junior Leora Freeman, junior Inessa Khajehgian, junior Ani Ttuyan, junior Lori Libarian and sophomore Kenzie Durry each scored one goal.
The Nitros lost to visiting Marlborough High of Los Angeles 18-7 in a nonleague game on Jan. 22.
Gevorgyan registered six saves, Ttuyan and Zelveyan each tallied two goals, and Brati, Freeman and Starr each had one goal.
Glendale picked up a 9-5 league victory over visiting Muir High of Pasadena on Jan. 18 as Gevorgyan racked up 13 saves.
Freeman contributed three goals, Starr and Khajehgian each scored two goals, and Zelveyan and Brati each chipped in one goal.
The Nitros (9-6 overall, 6-1 in league) will compete in the prelims and finals of the Pacific League Tournament as the No. 2 seed at Arcadia High School on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, respectively.

HOOVER
The Tornados suffered a 14-6 Pacific League loss at Glendale on Jan. 23.
Katalina Martin recorded three saves, while Candela Roman scored three goals. Malia Bautista chipped in two goals, while Ahlam Alhadeed had one goal.
Hoover, No. 7-seeded in the Pacific League Tournament with a 1-6 record (2-9 overall), will compete in the prelims and finals at Arcadia High School.

CRESCENTA VALLEY
The Falcons lost in overtime at Arcadia 8-7 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 23.
Crescenta Valley previously competed in the Whittier Tournament on Jan. 19 and 20, finishing with a 1-3 record. The Falcons lost to San Dimas, 7-6, Laguna Beach, 15-4, and Irvine, 14-1, but secured an 8-3 victory against St. Lucy’s High of Glendora.
Crescenta Valley will be the No. 5 seed in the Pacific League Tournament with a 4-3 record (10-11 overall).
