Falcons Battle in Year-End Tournament

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ basketball team lost to Louisville High of Woodland Hills 68-40 in a La Cañada New Year’s Ball Tournament game on Dec. 27 as senior Kylie Ray poured in 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
“Louisville is a good team,” Crescenta Valley coach Michael Flot said. “I am very proud that we never gave up. We are a young team getting better each day.”
Freshman Yashvi Ahir finished with six points, two steals and one rebound, junior Darby Stayton tallied six rebounds, five points, one steal and one block, and sophomore Amelia Parmentier registered four points, one steal, one rebound and one assist. Freshman Kelin Shajanian contributed three points, one rebound and one assist, while junior Keira Calaguas produced three steals, two points, one block and one rebound. Freshman Anik Nortikyan collected nine rebounds and one block, sophomore Mila Hairapetian scored two points, and freshman Ava Gharib had one rebound.
The Falcons defeated Granada Hills Charter 61-50 in their tournament opener on Dec. 26, as Ray posted a double-double with 23 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Calaguas registered 12 points, seven rebounds and one steal, while Ahir tallied 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and one block. Parmentier finished with eight rebounds, six points and three steals, while Stayton recorded 12 rebounds, four points, two assists and one steal. Junior Tsoler Nalbandian chipped in two points, two steals and one rebound, Shajanian contributed two points and one rebound, and freshman Lylah Dunlavey was credited with one assist and one rebound.
Crescenta Valley picked up a 51-30 Pacific League victory over visiting Burbank on Dec. 21 as Calaguas poured in 12 points with six steals and three rebounds.
Ray registered nine points, six steals, six rebounds and four assists, while Shajanian finished with seven points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Parmentier contributed six points, two steals, two assists and one rebound, while junior Estella Aydin recorded five points, two steals and one assist. Nortikyan produced seven rebounds, two points, two steals and one block, Dunlavey chipped in two points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist, and Ahir scored two points with two assists and one rebound. Gharib notched three rebounds, two points, two steals and one block, junior Darby Stayton had three rebounds, two points, two steals and one block, and Hairapetian tallied two points and one rebound. Nalbandian had two rebounds, one steal and one assist, freshman Teny Hovsepian had two steals and one block, and freshman Emma Hovsepian had two steals.
The Falcons (9-5 overall, 5-0 in league) will resume league play at Glendale on Jan. 4 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on Jan. 9.


HOOVER
The Tornados lost at Burroughs High in Burbank 50-2 in a Pacific League match on Dec. 21. Hoover junior Iren Musayelyan scored the only points for the Tornados.
Hoover (1-9, 0-5) will visit Burbank for a league game on Jan. 4 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on Jan. 9.


GLENDALE

Glendale High School senior Carmen Avedian and the Nitros defeated Pasadena in a Pacific League game on Dec. 21.

The Nitros secured a 56-42 Pacific League victory at Pasadena on Dec. 21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Glendale (10-3, 4-1) will host Crescenta Valley High in a league game on Jan. 4 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on Jan. 9.
