LCPC Christmas Concert Dives Into the Classics

Christmas is a time for music and singing, and La Cañada Presbyterian Church will explore that subject in a free concert Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. The free concert will be a multimedia event, featuring movie excerpts, video clips and pictures of favorite Christmas images.
This year’s special feature is seven-movement work “Glad Tidings” by Randol Alan Bass, and will include a chorus and full orchestra, with special guest Kevin Brief, acclaimed stage, film and television actor, narrating the story. The work tells the Christmas story using familiar carols and songs.
Other special segments include John Rutter’s “Gloria,” familiar carols “The First Nowell,” “O Tannenbaum” and a medley of nine Christmas songs in waltz style titled “Christmas la Valse.” Violinist Leslie Woodbury will be featured on an exuberantly Celtic setting “Of the Father’s Love Begotten.”
A segment for children includes the song “Christmas Is for Children” and the Boston Pops arrangement of “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” that includes a Christian view of the classic song.
The audience will also be invited to sing along with familiar carols. Prior to the event, LCPC’s Director Music & Worship Arts, Jack Lantz, will present a lecture on the program and the composers in the church sanctuary at 1:30 p.m.
A livestream of the event will be provided on the LCPC website, YouTube and Facebook for those who cannot attend in person.
Those interested can call the church office at (818) 790-6708 or visit lacanadapc.org. La Cañada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd.
