Leigh Purtill Ballet Company to Premiere Its Twist on ‘Nutcracker’

Leigh Purtill Ballet Company will host the first “Nutcracker” production of the season with the world premiere of its original ballet, “CRACKED: Nutcracker with a Twist!” at the Lanterman Theatre in La Cañada Flintridge on Nov. 11-12.
Leigh Purtill Ballet Company is a nonprofit amateur ballet company for adults that offers out-of-the-box thinking and nontraditional storytelling through original ballets. LPBC works to foster a community of dancers reflective of a diverse audience and break the mold of what traditional ballet looks like, empowering dancers of all backgrounds and abilities. The ballet company holds the simple belief that ballet is for everyone.
LPBC’s “CRACKED” version intertwines the Tchaikovsky score and story with a Celtic-inspired whimsical land of the Fae.
“Our ballet will take you on a captivating journey through the portal of a snow globe created by Drosselmeyer,” said LPBC Artistic Director Leigh Purtill. “Follow the family maid, Nora, on the adventure of a lifetime into a new world of magical creatures like Naiads, Dryads and Selkies. This fresh twist on a classic story retains the Nutcracker magic everyone knows and loves, while providing new humor and updates for today’s audiences.”

First published in the October 21 print issue of the Glendale News-Press.
