Nitros Fall Short Against Bassett, Lose Second Straight

The Glendale High School varsity football team narrowly lost at Bassett High in La Puente 10-7 in a nonleague game on Sept. 29.
Sophomore Kyle Robertson returned a fumble for a touchdown, had three receptions for 31 yards and added nine tackles on defense. Senior Jonathan Wells completed six passes for 52 yards, while senior Alex Idolor had five carries for 12 yards and a 3-yard catch. Freshman Sergio Avalos made a 9-yard catch, sophomore Rudy Cuellar made a 6-yard catch with four tackles on defense and sophomore Patrick Caceres scored an extra point.
Sophomore Alexander Shirvanian finished with 11 tackles, 0.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. Junior Mark Dacles racked up 11 tackles, while sophomore Brady Aldrete contributed 10 tackles and a sack. Senior Austin Aldrete produced nine tackles, while senior Alejandro Maravilla recorded eight tackles and 0.5 sacks. Senior Gerardo Contreras notched eight tackles, while senior Alfred Intriago chipped in seven tackles. Seniors Brandan Guzman and Freddie Rios Barrientos each registered four tackles, while senior Luis Rodriguez and sophomore Joseph Awad each had one tackle.
The Nitros (5-2 overall) visited Rowland High in Rowland Heights on Oct. 6; the nonleague game ended after the Glendale News-Press’ deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Glendale will host Grace High of Simi Valley for a nonleague game on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. before concluding the regular season against rival Hoover High for the annual Battle for the Bell game on Oct. 26.
