Crescenta Valley Sweeps Glendale in Pacific League Tilt

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity girls’ volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match after sweeping visiting Glendale, 25-20, 25-13, 25-19, in a Pacific League showdown on Sept. 19.
Junior co-captain Isabel Haytayan contributed 13 kills and three digs, while freshman Adelyn Lopez finished with nine kills, seven aces and five digs. Junior co-captain Sofia Shin racked up 20 digs and three aces, junior Caden Pinto tallied 17 assists and two digs, and senior Jessica Romero produced 10 assists, five digs, two aces and one kill. Senior Natalie Avakian recorded six aces and six digs, while sophomore Hayden Shirvanian collected five kills, two aces and one dig. Senior Pilar Garcia chipped in three aces and one dig, junior Noelani Joo registered two kills and one dig, and junior Hannah Wyroski had two kills. Senior Emma Santa Ana and junior Jamie Shoemake were each credited with one kill, senior Cameron Ouye had three digs and senior Sofia Santiago had two digs.
Crescenta Valley swept visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 25-3, 25-16, 25-15, in a league matchup on Sept. 14.
Pinto racked up 18 assists, 12 digs, three kills and two aces, Shin collected 25 digs, three aces and two assists, and Haytayan tallied 11 kills and two digs. Romero produced five assists and two digs, Avakian contributed eight digs and Ouye recorded six digs. Lopez chipped in five kills, three digs and two aces, while Shirvanian finished with four kills and three digs. Garcia recorded four digs and two aces, while senior Sophia Aroyan finished with four digs. Santa Ana had two kills and one dig, while Wyroski was credited with two digs and one kill. Shoemake had one kill and one dig, Santiago had one dig and one ace, and junior Eva Portnaya had one kill.
The Falcons (15-2 overall, 7-0 in league) have swept six of their last eight matches and are tied with Arcadia for first in the Pacific League standings.
CVHS and Arcadia (11-1, 7-0) played each other in a battle of undefeated league teams on Sept. 21; individual statistics and results were not available prior to the Glendale News-Press’ deadline. Crescenta Valley will visit Pasadena for a league match on Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Burroughs High of Burbank on Sept. 28.

GLENDALE
The Nitros were swept at Crescenta Valley High, 20-25, 13-25, 19-25, in a Pacific League match on Sept. 19.
Junior Aleina Manaois contributed 11 kills, six digs and two aces, senior Arianna Vargas finished with nine digs and three kills, and junior Emerson Whiting racked up 15 assists.
The fifth-place Nitros (7-6, 2-3) will visit Burroughs High in Burbank for a league matchup on Sept. 26 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Burbank on Sept. 28.

HOOVER
The Tornados were swept in a pair of Pacific League matchups at home by Burbank and Burroughs High of Burbank. Individual statistics and set scores were not reported to the Glendale News-Press by the Hoover coaching staff.
Hoover (1-11, 0-7) will host Arcadia for a league match on Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Muir High in Pasadena on Sept. 28.
