‘It’s About Time’ to Open at Brand Library & Art Center

Brand Library & Art Center is pleased to present “It’s About Time,” an art exhibition that attempts to make the complex subject of time more coherent through a multidisciplinary, tactile and visceral study of materiality, process, and technique.
The exhibition, co-curated by April Greiman and Stacie B. London, features 17 Los Angeles artists including Jamison Carter, Carolyn Castaño, Joe Davidson, Tibbie Dunbar, April Greiman, Ravi GuneWardena, Dennis Keeley, Mary Little, Stacie B. London, Maria Moyer, Sandeep Mukherjee, Jennifer Remenchik, Michael Rotondi, Shizu Saldamando, Adam Silverman, Pamela Smith Hudson and John Ziqiang Wu.
Utilizing their authentic and unique relationships with cement, clay, fabric, flora, graphite, ink, wood, paint, paper, photography, resin, video, and wax, among others, the artists explore the metaphors of time’s arrow (sequential events or narrative) and time’s cycle (repetition or patterns and seasons).
By delving into human’s short history within the enormity of all time, these 17 artists meet the challenge of representing the intangible threads of space and time through their diverse artistic expressions. Innovation and experimentation of thought, process and materials, results in artworks that pierce traditional boundaries and successfully make philosophical concepts physical.
The exhibit invites the viewer to engage in dialogues that will challenge the idea of where the artwork is experienced; in the public space of the gallery, or in the private space of the mind, thus allowing for both a personal and shared perspective.
April Greiman is an influential transmedia designer widely recognized as one of the first to embrace computer technology as a design tool. She is a pivotal proponent of “new typography” and “new wave” design that has come to define late 20th century graphic design. Greiman actively challenges interdisciplinary boundaries, investigating the parallels and intersections between art and design. Greiman is the director of Made in Space design consultancy, based in Los Angeles.
Stacie B. London is a Brand staff member and exhibition producer with more than 15 years of experience in gallery and museum exhibition production which includes seven years working at MOCA as the Exhibition Designer and Production Coordinator where she executed more than 80 exhibitions in all three of its venues. London has a master’s in industrial design from ArtCenter College of Design, completing part of her thesis in the Nano Labs at JPL; and her bachelor’s in Theater Arts is from University of California, Santa Cruz, where she focused on Theater Production.
“It’s About Time” is on view Sept. 23 through Nov. 22. The artists will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A press preview will be held Friday, Sept. 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
